Congratulations on your new son. I’m glad he is doing so well and I hope he comes home healthy and without reflux very soon.
Thanks for answering my post back then. I was frantic and needed help desperately. This site has been a saving grace for me. I hope you won’t need us for your new baby!!!

March 31, 2006 at 6:17 pm #5080AnonymousInactiveThanks all! I am back from seeing Carter. My OB hunted me down prior to me going to the hosp and said to page him when I got there. So I went to the hosp and paged him, and apparantly I received a pretty nasty infection from the catheter (sp?) that has made it to my bloodstream. It requires a med that either I receive IV and get admitted to the hospital (NO THANK YOU!) or a med I take orally which I opted. Either way, it passes through the breastmilk so I get to pump and toss for the next two and a half weeks!
Two days prior to coming home I spiked a pretty high fever and they did a thorough septic work up. When I was fever free for 24 hours, they felt it safe to discharge me and send me home. Aparantly this grew after I had left. Just our luck~
Carter is doing well, and tolerating feeds. I am pretty far ahead of him in the pumping dept and have quite a bit frozen already, so hopfully enough to get him through until I can start saving my milk again. Hopefully just a minor set back!
I never thought I’d be the first of the preg club to deliver!!!!! I am tired, but recovering well. I would have never known I was so sick right now.
Thanks for all of the support!!!!!!

April 1, 2006 at 10:06 am #5133AnonymousInactiveCongrats! I am glad that Carter is doing well! I really hope that he won’t be a refluxer and that the medicine will work and he won’t need surgery!
April 1, 2006 at 12:10 pm #5140AnonymousInactiveCongratulations on your new son! Hope you are feeling better soon and that Carter grows quickly! My son had the PDA surgery and it wasn’t bad; but he was full term so the meds were not an option – I’ve heard they are very effective in preemies. There is also another procedure they can do that is minimally invasive to close it – called a coil procedure. (We opted for it, but turned out we couldn’t do it because of another anomally.) Glad you got those extra two weeks!
April 1, 2006 at 4:09 pm #5152AnonymousInactiveCongratulations Ann Marie!! I’m glad to hear that Carter is doing well. What wonderful news! I hope that your infection clears up soon. I know it probably doesn’t mean anything, but I have a friend who had her daughter 3 months early due to placenta abrupta and her daughter did not have any reflux at all. Hope you’re all well and getting a bit of rest. Glad to hear your hubby is so fabulous! Thanks for the update.
April 2, 2006 at 4:59 pm #5223AnonymousInactiveCongrats to you and your husband! So happy to hear things are going well. I know all about cpap and nasal cannula. If it’s any hope for you, I know 2 other moms who delivered at the same time as me with 27 week preemies and neither of them have ever been on meds for reflux.
April 2, 2006 at 8:32 pm #5233AnonymousInactiveHi All!
Thanks again. Well, I was sicker on Saturday, so they admitted me to the hospital for IV antibiotics and I am feeling much better. I was discharged this afternoon. Carter is doing well, and we think the PDA has been closed as they are not hearing the murmer. It can open again, but this is a good sign for now.
Unfortunately I have to dump my breastmilk for the next two weeks while on meds, so I am hoping Carter doesn’t pass me out, but things in that dept are not looking good. I have agreed not to beat myself up if it doesn’t work (breastfeeding) but I am going to give it my best shot!
Thanks again, you guys! I love this place!!!!!

Congratulations! I haven’t been reading or posting very much since I have been busy with Alexis’ recovery. I’m so happy for you and your new addition! I’m glad everyone is doing well! Thanks for keeping us all up to date!
April 3, 2006 at 7:20 am #5244AnonymousInactiveHi Sue,
How is Alexis doing? Hopefully things are getting back to normal. The first week or so can be tough…..
Hang in there! You’re next for the baby arrival!

April 3, 2006 at 11:00 am #5259AnonymousInactiveAlexis is finally doing well, your right the first 2 weeks were horrible. She has loss so much weight and very I mean very slowly putting it back on. She still doesn’t eat a full meal very well, but she really does snack now which is good. Anyways, I am finally ready to have this baby! If I don’t go before April 21st I’m getting induced! I truly can’t wait! I’ll keep you updated!

No, don’t beat yourself up. It was so hard for me to stay ahead of my daughter in the NICU. I would pump for 20 minutes and get an ounce (total). For a long time, I had to rush to the NICU in the morning to drop off my milk so they would have enough for that next feeding. Sometimes they had to resort to donor breast milk temporarily until I could pump again. Once I started breastfeeding I would get 4-5 oz when I’d pump. Of course then when she came home and had colic/reflux, my milk supply dropped off soon thereafter. But I kept telling myself, I had planned to breastfeed, I can’t help it I have a preemie and milk supply issues, and it’s NOT my fault!! Good luck!
