I was talking to a coworker of mine about acid reflux yesterday. Her husband is a pharmacist and so I asked her to show him the marci-kids research about compounds not being made correctly AND the research that babies metabolize meds 3x faster than adults so they need much higher doses to get his opinion…
He brought up an EXCELLENT point that never even occurred to me!! He said the reason it has not been widely publicized that babies metabolize PPIs 3x faster is b/c the general public would jump the conclusion that babies metabolize ALL meds 3x faster (tylenol, cold meds, etc…) and that would be disastrous!!! Can you imagine if people were giving 3x the recommended dose b/c they assumed this “3x faster rule” applied for all forms of medicine!?!? That thought had never even occured to me!!! The FDA already pulled cold meds b/c people were giving too much!
Anyway, just another reason we’ll all have to fight to make the research known for our LOs!
