InactiveOk Sarah has reached an all time low with things and the GI thinks it’s
the out of control reflux causing a lot of the problems. She is
being scoped and having the ph study done on Monday but the GI said to
give her Mylanta today and tomorrow to try to get her to eat/drink so
she doesn’t loose any more weight. Sarah is allergic to dairy and
intollerant to soy. I know I have heard that one form should be
safe for her but am not 100% sure which one and can’t afford to mess
that up.Anyone here know???

InactiveThank you! That was what I thought it was and the rep at Mylanta
thought, but she couldn’t get into the computer system to confirm it
and said she would call back tomorrow with the info. Doesn’t do us any
good to keep waiting till tomorrow cause the regular dr on base was
talking about hospitalizing Sarah since she has lost almost 2 pounds in
3 weeks and is still refusing to eat or drink. 🙁 The GI
still thinks the majority of her problems are from majorly bad reflux
(unresponsive to all meds tried in the past) and once we scope and have
a confirmation she said Sarah will need mega doses of muiltiple meds to
help her out, but in the meantime I need to keep her out of the
hospital.April 12, 2006 at 4:48 pm #6038Anonymous
InactiveYes, it is allergy safe. Go with the Mylanta Cherry Supreme.
Also, you should really push for the Bravo pH Probe made by Medtronic, as it is much more comfortable and less stressful for your child, and also delivers much more reliable results. Here’s a link to more information on it: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=4651&a mp;PN=1
Most doctors don’t know about it yet, so you may have to educate your doctor a bit and get him/her to order it for you.

InactiveJoel, I know due to insurance restrictions she is only doing the
24 hour ph probe so I am not sure if it would/could be that one or
not. I will ask our GI about it though! The GI we are seeing is supposedly really good and is highly
respected. Even my grandmothers dr knew who this GI is (the GI is
peds only and my g-ma’s dr is adult only) and said she had an amazing
reputation for getting problems solved and kids better! I know
she really jumped into things our first consult and didn’t beat around
the bush like all the other doctors I have seen in the past have and I
really respected that! I am just hoping that the scoping and ph
study give us good solid answers. I wanted Sarah scoped anyway to
make sure there isn’t anything physically causing this but the GI said
she had to scope to place the probe anyway.I gave Sarah the Mylanta about 1/2 hour ago and 15 min later was able
to get her to drink some Elecare (FINALLY) and she took about 4oz and
is now asleep. That is the most she has drank in one stretch in
weeks and it hasn’t come right back up so I am hoping the mylanta
helped a little!!! <!–
