InactiveTo let the lo sleep with a stuffed animal? Cooper has recently become very attached to his soother bear. I have taken the music box out of his back and velcroed that to the crib so when he pulls the bear out of the corner he doesn’t wack himself with the music box. I have noticed that when he is really restless he grabs the bear and “strokes” it so to speak to comfort himself. This bear has been in his crib since he got home but in the last 2 weeks he has really become attached to it. Is it okay to let him “cuddle” with it at night? I still freak out about SIDS even though he is almost 6months old and is very strong. At what age did you guys let your lo’s sleep with something stuffed animal/blanket that was used for comfort? TIA.

InactiveSarah has always had a “blankie”. Well, I should clarify she started sleeping with it around 5-6 months. It is just a 12×12 inch square. I bought another one and along with her other “lovie”, she has 3 small blankets in her crib. She definitely needs them to fall asleep and knows when she sees them that it’s time to go “night night”.
I asked about the stuffed animal question a few months back but I can’t remember what age most people said…sorry. You could try to search it.
My advice would be to do what you are comfortable with. If you are still worried about SIDS and think that the stuffed animal will make you crazy with worry, then it’s probably not time yet.
GOOD LUCK!!! I know with as little sleep as you’ve gotten lately…the thought of a bear being able to soothe him sounds great!!
Good luck!

InactiveBeth!
OMG, you always post something that I’m wondering about at the EXACT same time. Kate LOVES this little bear(actually it’s onle a head of a bear) my brother bought her when he was here that has a blanket attached to it, she’s always covering her face with it though and it freaks me out!!! Anyway, thanks for the great question!

InactiveClaire, Ben has a bear head just like you have described, and I started putting it in his crib when he was just a bit older than Kate. Beth, I also worried about SIDS, but I waited until he could roll over BOTH ways. For some reason, I just felt ok about it then.

InactiveThanks!! I actually bought her(I’m piggy-packing off of your thread Beth!I hope that’s okay
)an Ookie doll which is so cute. The bearhead(
that sounds funny…)rattles and wakes her up soemtimes when she’s sleeping and plus the blanket is so big so like I said, it freaks me out! I also just like the name of the Ookie doll….

KeymasterI think as long as they’re ‘baby’ stuffed animals w/o eyes that can come off if chewed, etc- the ones w/ thread eyes/nose, etc is ok- like what baby gund makes
that’s the only ‘rule’ I have when they’re youngJuly 31, 2007 at 12:41 pm #40215Anonymous
InactiveI have the same philosophy as Naomi – once they can roll over both ways and are more aware, they would be able to roll over or pick their heads up if they weren’t able to breathe well enough. Caden sleeps with a bear head with blanket attached also, Claire, and he has had that in his crib since 6 months.
