InactiveHello everyone: I am new to this site. I am so thankful for all this info.
My son is 13 mos. old and just was prescribed prevacid 15mg solutab once a day. I was not told by my doctor or the pharmist that it should be given on an empty stomach. So I have been giving it to him right after breakfast.
So now I am clueless on when to give it to him.
When he wakes he drinks an 8 oz. cup of milk. Then about 30 minutes to 1 hour later he has breakfast.
So is the milk considered food or does it not really count and I could just give him the prevacid right after his milk? OR should I wait and give it to him around 9:00 in the morning. That would be 1 hour AFTER breakfast. Or am I supposed to give it to him BEFORE he eats?
I don’t think there is anyway that I could hold him off from his milk in the morning. He wants that as soon as he wakes.
Thanks so much for the help
-Wendy

InactiveThat is a good question because I was never told to give it to my daughter on an empty stomach either. And what I usually do is give it to her before dinner (in which I gave about a 1/2 hour to one hour before we ate dinner……just did it that way) and I put her capsule beads in applesauce.
I would like to know too……if milk is considered that…..also if a light snack is part of that too because my daughter is usually starving by the time I get her home from daycare………and I am sure most of you understand that you can not hold that snack from them.

Inactivemilk is considered food because it creates a solid in your stomach.

InactiveI would give it before the milk even if you can’t wait the 30 minutes at least then he would be getting it on an empty tummy. As Christine said, milk is considered a meal- it has been mentioned on here before that it only takes 4 oz. of food/formula to activate the med. Our prescription always has the sticker on it to “take before meals”.

InactiveMan oh man, I just have no clue at all.
I E-mailed Doctor Phillips and his answer was no help at all. He did not even answer my question really.
Thanks everyone for helping!

Keymasterjust try giving the med at different times & see if it makes a difference- before milk, after milk, etc…
