InactiveIm new and found this forum and desperately need help with my little man. He is almost 3 months and weighed 13lbs 12ozs at our appt yesterday. After much fighting with the doctor she finally prescribed him zantac. The dosage she gave is 1 ML twice a day, and on the bottle it says 15mg/ml.
We gave him his first does last night and he still had trouble eating. Not screaming like usual but just fighting the bottle in general. We gave him his second dose this morning and he fought the bottle again, and only ate 3 ozs when he usually could eat 5.5 ozs.Is this dose too low? When should i see a difference?Im worried that he has associated eating with pain and wont want to eat like he was before this reflux became in issue
I apologize if this is in the wrong section.Any help is appreciated
ETA- he seemed to eat better after i gave him the mylanta supreme cherry i tried only once to hold us over til the appt. is that normal?pirate.wife 2010-06-29 13:31:45 June 29, 2010 at 2:15 pm #66581hellbennt
Keymasterhi & welcome!
first of all w/the zantac, you can give up to 10mgs per kilo by weight- don’t just take my word on this! read here:https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8288&PN=1
so, by checking this conversion chart:
http://www.sfca.co.uk/match/kilolbs.htm
I see that 13lbs 12 oz = 6.2 kilos
max dose of zantac is 10mgs per kilo, so
10 x 6.2 = 62mgs total for the day of zantac
you bottle says 15mgs/ml
this means that for every 1ml of liquid, your baby is getting 15mgs of zantac
so then you divide the 62mgs a day that he CAN be taking by 15 to get the mls, which is = 4.1mls total for the day of zantac
your current dose is 2mls, so there is room to increase!
try two doses a day or even three to see if it helps- you can dvide up the 4.1 ‘unevenly’ and give a higher portion/dose in the evening…/* Style Definitions */
