InactiveHi all,
Just wondering when you started solids with your little gerdlings? Our
daughter is 4.5 months and is teething. She is taking anywhere from 5-7
oz. of formula per feed (5-6 daily) but is still waking up twice a night
hungry! Would solids help? I know the medical “average” is 6 mos, but she
still struggles with spitting up a lot, and I wonder if starting some rice cereal
would help. We have not, as yet, added anything to her formula. Your
Advice and your experiences would be great!!!

Inactivegerdlings tend to get on solids later. my son is almost 9 months and still not really interested in solids.
also, as for solids “helping” sleep, here is some good info:

and , why delay solids?

InactiveAbby started with rice in her bottle at 4 months and some rice cereal by about 5 months with no problems. These little ones are all so different that what works great for one, may not work so well for another. What is your doc’s opinion? Good luck with whatever you decide!!

Inactiveshane did fine on rice cereal as well.. it was added to his bottle at around 2 months.. soo who knows? i do know that the more he eats during the day the fuller he is and sleeps longer without being fed at night. (this includes formula feeds during the day as well)

InactiveAll of my babies (two had reflux) started oatmeal cereal before 4 months and they all did fine with it.

InactiveWe also did rice cereal and then tried other baby foods at 6 months but it took us until Colton was 15 months old to get him to eat properaly.

InactiveMy dd couldnt, and still cannot tolerate any solids…it didnt help her sleeping or reflux at all when we tried, it made them worse, but she is also MSPI, with possible MFPI…so that could be more her issue, we are waiting until 9 months…we have tried at 5, 6 and 6.5 months a few different things, but got bad bad reactions (we tried because she is showing all the “signs”) but her body just isnt ready….

InactiveI started Alana at about 6 months. It took her a good three weeks to really get the swallowing thing, I just tried a little bit each day, but after that she took of. We have been pretty lucky in that she hasn’t reacted to much- only grains! So we avoid grains overall (and milk proteins of course!!!) and stick with veges, fruit and now a little bit of chicken. We have also been lucky in that it hasn’t seemed to affect her refulx at all- although at the same time she learnt to sit up by herself (we have to put her in the position but she can stay there all day long and prefers it that way) and I think that might have helped a bit with the reflux as well. I think I persisted as well because Alana was taking sometimes 40oz of formula a day and just seemed really hungry. It has had the desired effect and her formula has reduced and she loves food (well of course she is her mothers daughter
