InactiveI have a few questions that I hope someone could answer for me. I’m a new mom and sometimes have no idea what I’m doing. Landon has been doing really well with the zantac and cereal in every bottle, but it is soon time to start him on baby food and I am scared to death that it will trigger his reflux again. How can I make this transition without making him miserable? What about adding some organic aloe vera to his diet? How do I give it? Right now Landon is still sleeping on his Tucker, which is wonderful, but he is getting to big for it and alot of the time now seems to be somewhat uncomfortable on it, I guess because of his size. He weighs 16 lbs. and is now 3.5 months old. Big Boy!! When could I try him in his crib again? I’m sorry for all the ?’s but I’m just not sure.
He has an appt. with his ped. in about 3 weeks, so we’ll see how that goes. Any advice at all to keep my little guy acid free is very much appreciated. God Bless You All

Keymasterfirst of all: It WILL get better! Really. Truly.
next: don’t even worry about solids yet. most everyone here will tell you to hold off until 6 months, at least. It doesn’t sound like you need to worry about weight gain, so please read the posts from everyone telling you it’s ok to wait…When/How do I Start Solids?: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2760&a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;KW=solids
next: glad to read that he’s doing well with just the zantac! If that’s truly the case, you don’t need to worry about organic aloe vera, although it certainly won’t harm him if you’re interested in it
. Do a search for ‘aloe’ and you’ll find this information
crib: you can try the crib at any time- we kept the mattress on an angle, and yes, jonah wound up on the bottom
and then we just put the mattress straight, but it doens’t hurt to try…to keep him acid free: again, you say the zantac is working. If that’s the case then just make sure you adjust his dose for his weight, as it is extremely weight sensitive and needs to be adjusted constantly…

InactiveWe switched to a danny sling that came in different sizes. We are keeping her in it until around 9 or 10 months or when I don’t hear as much regulping, like our first daughter. We use coats aloe. Its been around for years, they have a website, my husband knows the owner who used it on his children and now grandchildren, one with reflux. It comes in a aloe-strawberry flavor. I keep it in the fridge and I use a dropper to give it to her. 1-2 oz two times a day. Also, i put it in her bottle. It is supposed to have a healing effect that has been backed up by research. I am starting to notice a difference. He is a big boy! I guess like Laura said, it worked better when we waited until after 6 months. Technically, he is getting solids because of the cereal. My dd really is starting to chunk up from it. Also, it does have added iron and zinc.

InactiveWow…Laura was (as usual!) right on the money! I second all that she says. Do NOT rush to get him on solids, especially with his weight being so good. When you do start the solids, start with the cereal he’s been having in his bottle. Mix it with your formula to a cereal consistency. That way,you know it won’t upset his tummy since he’s doing fine on it now. Then go very slow with new foods. There are some posts about what are good foods to start with reflux babies…can’t remember what they are though (sorry!).
Keep doing what you’re doing, YOU ARE DOING GREAT!!!!

InactiveI agree; don’t rush on the solids. He’s much too young!! Some of our babies have such a hard time keeping liquids down that we have no choice but to start them on solids. But your little guy seems to be doing fine, so I would definitely wait a few months.
If he’s outgrowing his sling, you could try to elevate the head of his mattress and try it out for a few naps first to see if he can tolerate it.
Good luck and glad you found us
