Where do I begin?!?

About a month ago, we got a letter from Nemours Clinic stating that our Ped GI is leaving the clinic. My follow up appt. was supposed to be this month. Since they didn’t have someone available to cover the satellite clinic (in my town), I couldn’t get another appt. until Feb. This isn’t that big of a deal to me b/c Evie has been doing great with all of her food trials. Evie eats most veggies and fruits now (commercial, fresh, cooked, pureed,diced, etc.) and is doing great with them all. She has been loving Ian’s chicken nuggets, fresh chicken, organic french fries, organic waffles and bagels. We are even going to declare the yo baby trial a success.

Anyhow, we get a letter today stating that the entire GI clinic is closing and the Dr.’s will be working out of the Orlando Hospital (kind of a hike). All appointments after Jan. 8 are cancelled, and I have to fill out a bunch of releases etc. etc. to be established as a new patient with the hospital and I have no idea when I will be able to get in.

I would consider just forgetting about the GI but…they write my Neocate Rx. I guess my question is, are we ready to get off the Neocate?? If so, what do I transition her to? Nutramagin, Good Start? The only dairy we’ve had is the yogurt. I have no idea how the proteins differ between yogurt and formula. Is it bad to keep her on Neocate? It’s covered by insurance so going to regular formula would be a HUGE increase in our budget! What do you all think

Can her regular pedi write the Neocate Rx? I would definately try to keep her on for a year if you can. We did 13 mo with success, and I think success rate is better after 1 yr.

Just my 2 cents worth, but I’ve been there and we even had to pay out of pocket for the Neocate and believe me I wanted to stop ASAP!

I would think if she did yogurt fine she would do goodstart just fine! If she can handle the hidden dairy in the foods that is a great sign as well.

My son did o.k on goodstart but horrible on yogurt!

if you need the rx, can you fax the dr, wherever he is, and just say to please call in a refill for x____ amount of time?

Personally, I’d stick with the Neocate until at least a year. Alex tested allergic to milk at 9 months and had outgrown it at 14 months, so that window of time can be crucial. As Erica said, there is a higher success rate once you hit a year.

Our ped was willing to write a script for Neocate. Could you get your ped to write one?

Actually, I called my ped today to see what he wants me to do. He said he would write my Rx for the Neocate and we’d “review” her transition at her 12 month visit. I hope my insurance will continue to cover the Neocate b/c the GI’s office was excellent about saying the right things to the insurance company to get them to cover it. Do you all think I should continue with the yo baby or no???? I don’t want to ruin anything!
