InactiveWe have a lot of newbies and new additions so I thought it may be fun to find out why we chose our children’s names.
For us, even when we were dating, Dh told me he wanted a son named Jake. Well, one of our nephews ended up being a Jacob so that took care of that. So, I found Seth one night in a bible study class which was going on and on. I got bored and started flipping through my bible and came across a section where they listed all of the names in the bible. I saw Seth and it stuck. I liked it because it was timeless, short, not too weird but not overused either. Luckily, Dh never even questioned it. It turned out to be a good choice. It ended up taking us years to get pregnant and Seth means “appointed one” and it truly is a miracle we have him.
For his middle name, Matthew, we had it picked out ahead of time. It is a tradition on Dh’s side for the men to have “M” middle names. It ended up being a good choice too since Seth was born on Christmas Eve and the Christmas story is found in the book of Matthew in the bible.
If we would have had a girl, it would have been Leah (my middle name is Leigh and it is another biblical name) with Meredith for her middle name (keeping with the “M” theme but more so after my mom, Mary).
If we were to ever have a girl now, I like Sarah Meredith. I always wanted my kids to have names with the same first initial.
Another boy, Sean Michael????
And, just in case you are wondering, NO, I am definitely NOT expecting. Just like talking about baby names!! LOL

InactiveMy husband was the one who really liked the name Sarah, but he wanted it to be Sarah Beth. I did not like the combination and we stayed undecided on a name for quite a while. Around Christmas time (I was due in April) I still couldn’t think of a name that I really liked so I decided to go with Sarah. I ordered some painted blocks for her nursery with her name and kept it a secret until my husband’s birthday in March! He was soooooo happy when he saw that I agreed to go with Sarah. He said it was the best birthday present ever. We decided to go with Elizabeth at the hospital for her middle name (it is also my middle name) but everyone has strict instructions in my family NOT to call her Sarah Beth!
LOL! We haven’t started thinking ahead yet about future baby names. It was hard enough to decide on Sarah Elizabeth!

Tiffany – I really like Sarah Meredith!

InactiveMy first son’s name is Isaac Joshua. Isaac was a name that I had always liked and it was one that my husband agreed on, so that one was easy for us. Joshua is my husband’s name.
My second son’s name is Parker Reede. If I had a choice I would have named my first son Parker, but for some reason my husband didn’t like the name at the time. By the time we had #2, he had changed his mind. Reede is a name I always liked too, but I didn’t really like it for a first name, and it ended up sounding really good with Parker. It ended up being ironic (we had the name picked out before he was born) but Parker was born in the “Park”ing lot! *lol* (But that’s another story).
Bryce was one of those that suddenly we knew. “That’s it.” We had a harder time finding a name we agreed on this time, but flipping through a baby name book, I saw it and luckily my husband agreed. His middle name is Andrew. We had some problems with his pregnancy and picked Andrew because it means “strong & courageous”. He certainly has turned out to be so.I’d like to have girl or two some day. We like the names Hope Anne (Anne’s my middle name) and Sage Elise.

InactiveAmy, I like Sarah Elizabeth too. We actually originally thought about Elisabeth for a middle name if we had a girl and call her “Libby” but in the end we figured calling a child a nickname of a middle would be too confusing. Dh goes by his middle name and that alone has caused him a lot of headaches through the years!
Heather, I can’t believe Parker was born in a “Park”ing lot. You definitely need to post that story sometime!!

BTW, in regard to future names, don’t ask me why I have even entertained them because we have pretty much decided Seth is going to be an only!

Keymasterto read christine’s (kevieb) and kim’s (pkkb) & anne marie’s (monty123): https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2451&a mp;a mp;KW=names&PN=0&TPN=1 & page 2 has sue’s (Alexis’smom), sherry’s (ashtyn’smom) & page 3 has janice

(but of course they’ll probably want to add their current touches
-seems like there’re some second babies
)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have loved the name Jonah since I was 14 yrs old and had a HUGE HUGE crush on a boy named Jonah DeCola (if anyone knows him, tell him “hi!” ROTFLMAO!!!
)…I also happen to really love the Jonah story.
Also, Jonah (yonah) means ‘dove’ in Hebrew, which I love, too
.But, ‘officially’ Jonah is named for my grandfather. He’s Jonah Benjamin Bennett w/ the ‘B’ of Benjamin for John’s grandma Belle.
Now for Ari:
I really wanted the name Micah…dh said no…
it was soo hard to agree/come up with a name for this little guy!
I then wanted Ariel (as in Ariel Sharon, former prime mininster of Israel – I didn’t want to name my son after this man- just giving his name as a reference
), but unfortunately, Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” has made the name decidedly feminine
, at least in the USA. I was fine with it, as I feel it’s like ‘Gabriel’ & ‘Daniel’…anyway, dh would go along with the name if it was just ‘Ari’
it means ‘lion’ in hebrew, so I wanted to balance it out (I mean one kid is a dove; I didn’t want to invite trouble by having a lion!); so his middle name is Nathaniel, meaning ‘gift of god’
‘Officically’ he’s named for dh’s great grandfather, Abraham, and his middle name is after dh’s great aunt Natalie, who never had any children & he was close to her.
~laura
ps: and there’s always Ari Gold on Entourage, LOL
(but he’s short for ariel

InactiveWe went with Colton after reading tons of books and not being able to decide on anything. Colton has two middle names because we chose to use them as names to remember. Colton’s first middle name is Wildon which was my husbands dads name. One night when my husband was 11 him and his father were riding home on a motorcycle when a drunk driver crossed the road and hit them head on. My father in law died and my husband was left fighting for his life. Anyways we thought that would be a good name but my mother in law who is now remarried didn’t like the thought of us using his name. She said “its not a real name”. Needless to say Colton’s middle name is Wildon. Then we decided on the name Dale. I am a huge Nascar fan and since I was little I loved to watch Dale Earnhardt Sr. race. When he died I decided that if I ever had a son I would name him Dale. So we decided on Dale as a second middle name. That’s were we got Colton Wildon Dale McLean. This turned out to be a really big name considering he was only 5 lbs 10 ozs when he was born. As little as he was he really needed a big name. kattmc32006-9-17 12:21:41

InactiveThis is so fun – by the way Kathleen are you watching the Nascar race right now – I love it too!!
Kayla Nicole was named Kayla because my middle name is Kay. We knew right away that that would be her name. Middle name however was another story. We really had no idea. After she was delivered by c-section and I was brought to my room, my hubby looked at me and said how about Nicole? It was weird because as I was in recovery, that was the exact middle name I was thinking about – really weird.
Abigail Elizabeth I really don’t know how it came about. My husband was initially opposed to it but I think I just kept hounding him (like I do with so many things) and eventually he gave in. He felt that she would be called “Dear Abby”. Now she is Abby-dooby, CrabbyGail, Abiwail, AbbyCrabby, Abbs of steel, AbberDabber (and he was worrying about Dear Abby
.)As far as boys go, we liked Micah but Lynn’s neice named her little guy that so that wasn’t an option. We also liked Seth but a good friend named her baby that. We really didn’t have much in mind for boy names so I guess it’s good we had girls

InactiveWow, you guys all picked such beautiful names!… and Heather, yes, you have to post about how Parker arrived in the parking lot!!! Sounds like an interesting story (and I love hearing about delivery stories for some reason… sorry if that’s wierd).
Here’s ours:
I had my kids names planned out way before I had them:
Sarah for a girl, and Jonah for a boy.
My sister and I were both pregnant with our firsts at the same time, and she had a son- Jonah- so that name was out. I was so upset, but ending up having girls anyhow, so I guess it’s a moot point.
Actually, my beloved grandfather was indirectly responsibe for the naming of both my girls- Sarah Abigail, and Hailey Ilyse.
For Sarah, I’d always loved that name, and wanted a Sarah. I love how it’s so biblical, and also my grandmother (who’s still alive) has a middle name Sarah, so it makes me think of her. It was also the only name on both my list and my husband’s so it was pretty easy. Abigail came about because when I was visiting my grandfather he mentioned to some members of the family that he “just knew” that I was going to name my baby after his brother. This of course filtered its way back to me. He had a big family that was dessimated in WW2, and this one brother still didn’t have anyone named after him, which is a cultural tradition to name after someone when they pass away. His name was Abraham, but because I had a girl, her Hebrew name was given as “Avigail”, and I chose Abigail to match as her middle name. I’d never met his brother but I loved the idea of having my daughter named after someone who was so special to my grandfather, and it meant a lot to me to be able to give him that gift while he was alive.
For Hailey, it was much harder. Before I got pregnant with Hailey, my same grandfather told me that I was soon going to have a baby that was going to be named after him. Well, surprisingly, I did get pregnant soon after that visit, and shortly after my grandfather went into the hospital and died during my pregnancy. His name was Issie, and if I had a boy, he would have the name Isaac after him. But we knew that we were having a girl, though we kept it a secret and told no one. Even though we had so much time to decide, dh and I could not agree on names- I wanted Leeah or Rebecca with middle name Issabella, and dh wanted Chelsea Isobel (which I did not like). Well the debate continued through the entire pregnancy, and the night that I went into labour (for the first time they sent me home) we had it narrowed down to Kayla or Kaylie Isabella. Then all of a sudden, while I’m hooked up to the machines, he says he doesn’t like those names and what about Chelsea Isobel! So they sent me home from the hospital in early labour, and I was so upset with dh that I called my mother. She told me that she was just at the phone and was going to call me (not knowing I’d gone to the hospital) because she had been having odd dreams about the name of the baby. She said that she had been “talking” to my grandfather since he passed, and asked him to give her a sign so that she would know he was still with her- to tell her the sex and name of the baby. She said that she didn’t want to bother me with it because I was having such a sick pregnancy, but she had been having so many dreams that she finally decided that she had to tell me- she kept dreaming about a girl named Ilyse, and just wanted me to know in case we needed a name. So dh and I went back to the name drawing board, and noticed that we both had the name Hailey on our lists, and he also liked the uniqueness of the name Ilyse which is how she got her name. It turned out that when the Rabbi was looking for a female translation for the name Isaac- he didn’t know that her middle name was Ilyse, he came back to me saying that he couldn’t find anything that started with the letter “I” to match. I was so upset that he looked again, and came back saying that the only name he could find was “Iliza”, which we picked as her religious name. We took it to mean that my grandfather’s spirit was still with us, and that he had actually been trying to tell my mother to name the baby Iliza after him. I think he is Hailey’s guardian angel and has been watching over her through this whole experience.
Sorry that’s so long!

InactiveWell my son was named after Dylan from Beverly Hills 90210….I just LOVED Luke Perry’s character……I know crazy, huh? My daughter’s name came from my son……..well my DH and I chose 2 names, which were Vanessa and Rylie. We gave him the choice to choose so that he would feel a part of having her…..so he chose Rylie. Vanessa was from Vanessa Marcil, who use to play on General Hospital and is now on Las Vegas (my DH is in love with her). Rylie was from one of those baby name books…….I just loved the name.

InactiveAustin is a family name, it was my great grandmother’s maiden name. With Aidan, my husband and I were seperated the entire time I was pregnant (he just moved back in the first) and we were anything but civil whenever we talked..so I called him up one day and said “I like the name Aidan..he said so do I” and we hung up on each other…funny thing is the name Aidan is Irish and means “little fire” and here he ends up born with reflux!!!!! My older son chose Aidan’s middle name, Isaac because he thought “he would be born with super eyes” (aparently he thought it was “eye” saac)

InactiveJill – “eye” saac is such a cute misinterpretation! What a great story to tell them when they are older!

InactiveI know right? The even funnier story is, when he asked what each name meatn, I said “aidan means fire and Isaac means laughter”…which to a 5 year old translates to “a baby brother brother who will spit fire when he laughs”….his teacher said she laughed til she cried when he told her that!!!

InactiveLori, I just cried reading about Hailey’s name. It makes their name even more special when they are named after someone who is gone that you loved so much. ok i have to stop i am crying again.

InactiveKaelyn’s story is in the post from Laura’s link above. With her, we kept trying other names, but every time we just kept coming back to Kaelyn. It just seemed right. I really wanted her middle name to be Mary (after my mom), but dh didn’t think that it flowed right with Kaelyn, so we settled on Elizabeth.
Alexandra was a lot more challenging to name. My mom passed away when Kaelyn was 4 months old, so I was determined that this baby would have her name in some way, but I wasn’t sure that I wanted it to be her first name. Plus, my MIL is also Mary, and she hates her name, so she threw a fit when we said that we might use it as a first name. We still hadn’t come up with a name when I started bleeding. So, we’re driving to the hospital, I’m gushing blood everywhere and worrying about the baby, and my dh is freaking out that we don’t have a name yet. We ended up spending at least an hour of the time that we sat waiting around the hospital reading the baby name book. We both came up with a list and Alexandra was the only name that we both had on our list. So… Alexandra Mary it is.

InactiveJill- too cute!… Austin sounds pretty clever!
Kathleen- I really like the tradition of naming them after someone who has passed. It is so special to me to have a baby named after him. In fact, during some of the rough patches, it actually kept me going.
