Infantreflux.org | won’t drink... please help

I am so glad you found out the probable cause! That’s fantastic!!! I hope after a few short days on an antibiotic things will get better!

Sorry he has an ear infection! At least you know what was wrong now though. I’m sure the red throat is just from being sick. Sore throats go hand-in-hand with ear infections a lot of times. Hopefully that was what was causing him not to drink and he’ll be back to normal when he’s feeling better. Bryce won’t take anything by mouth when he has a sore throat.

Hope he feels better soon. Poor little guy!

o.k i just wanted to post that the first two nights we started the prevacid he slept 10 hrs straight! last night was a nightmare again!! he rolled around a woke up around the clock! ugh. but he did drink 8 ounces in the middle of the night! thats because he didnt have one bottle yesterday:( but the good thing is that i gave him mylanta right before i put the bottle in his mouth.. and it worked.. soo hopefully i will try that again today and see if it helps or not.. I SWEAR THERE REALLY SHOULD BE A HANDBOOK ON THE “REFLUX CHILD!”

I think we could make a lot of money if we all co-authored a book! I love mylanta for the exact reason that you posted…it’s almost an immediate clue if it is reflux bothering them. What’s unfortunate is that it can never be just ONE problem. It always has to be a combination of several things…making it that much harder to figure out!

o.k guys i just did a little experiment!

he wouldnt drink his bottle of course.. sooooo…

i tried some mylanta he took a couple sips than pushed it away.

i tried to add some oatmeal to see if he was just used to it thickened.. he pushed it away.

i added the vanilla rice milk.. but i had to add it to about half and half which i know is not good.. and he drank the whole thing!!

sooo we found our second reason! what a stubborn baby huh??!

i feel like its easier to add it to his bottle than to add a syrup … it is enriched and he does eat a lot of food. is it bad to add it?! and i dont think the natural vanilla that laura was talking about would taste the same and or as sweet. ugh. i guess i will ask the doctor what they think tomorrow.. would you guys keep adding it until then?

Our doctor never had a problem with us giving Hailey vanilla soy milk. In the end, she preferred the regular kind, but I do offer her vanilla pediasure (which she hates, but that’s another story).

I don’t know much about the rice milk, but you have to remember how horrible Alimentum is! How gradually had you been making the switch back to Alimentum? Maybe he just needs a little more time re-adjusting to the taste??

We are on day 2 of a switch AWAY from Alimentum. We haven’t had NEAR the problems with taste issues that we had when we put her ON Alimentum. Granted, she’s eating other foods now besides formula (which she wasn’t during the first switch) so maybe her taste buds have matured…OR she is just glad to NOT drink the Alimentum anymore!

I hope you are able to find some definitive answers about the rice milk so that everyone can be happy!!!

Maybe a nutritionist might be able to help- I guess I would be worried that the rice milk he is getting doesn’t have all the nutrients that the formula has? Particularly given Shane’s age. Just a thought?

o.k he drank a couple of bottles without the rice milk.. thank God.. i think he knows that that is what he is getting now…. hopefully he will continue. but his sleep is still a mess.. waking every 2 hours whining and than going back to sleep i cant tell if its a learned thing or not or whats going on.. oh well.. i’ll keep u guys updated.

Maybe what you could do is add the rice milk for now, then slowly, slowly decrease it? Just an idea

ped’s office said its o.k to add a little… yay. i hope that solves our botttle problems …. i dont think its the ears because he has finished all his meds for it.. but at this point who knows i wouldnt be surprised if it ended up being some other factor as well .. we’ll see….

alright i knew it.. wouldnt take his bottle again. ugh, i thought i had it figured out! i guess we’ll be going to the doctors again tomorrow. i really feel like i am going crazy i’ll let u guys know what happens.. thanks again for all your support
