InactiveMy son is 5 1/2 months old. He passed his swallow test today and can start having thickened formula. We use cereal that is ground up in a coffee grinder. He does not want to put the bottle in his mouth. He takes his pacifier great. During the swallow study he did not take the bottle so well then either. He hasn’t had a bottle since he was 8 weeks old. Anyone have any suggestions??

InactiveCrazy as it sounds my ped told me to dip the nipple in a little sugar. I used a little strawberry nesquik. worked like a charm.really sweet & mspi friendly. we did that for a week or so.
the type of nipple makes a big diffrence too. right flow ,wide, regular, etc… a little trial and error.dr browns wide neck are good nipples we use a # 3 with ceral & a # 2 with simply thick. we use born free bottles with the dr browns nipples.mom2jack&jill2011-05-13 00:06:13

InactiveJust a thought….they have a medicine pacifier maybe put a little formula in one of those to start with?
I use the med paci for my son’s meds. he takes it great.May 13, 2011 at 8:41 am #68367Anonymous
InactiveThanks guys,, i have dr browns bottles but not the wide neck. I searched the difference and it was the nipple and transitioning from the breast. My son was never breast fed so i didn’t know if it would still help? Any suggestions on that? He uses the soothie pacifiers,, are they close to those?

InactiveMy ds wasn’t BF either. He just preferred the wide neck.
The soothie is so much like a regular nipple. I am scratching my head a little…..
safety 1st makes one with a soothie like nipple. there is also one like a more traditional paci.Have u tried “dream feeding” basically feeding them while they are in between not awake and not sleeping. This is when my ds eats the most. It’s around 1-2 am. It’s different for every lo but just to give u an idea.HTHMay 13, 2011 at 3:31 pm #68370hellbennt
KeymasterCan you make an appt w/ the SLP who did the swallow test?
I’d talk to her/him about how to introduce the bottle, etc…May 13, 2011 at 4:42 pm #68372Anonymous
InactiveSoothie has their own line of bottles. Have you tried them? If he will take the soothie bink, their bottles might work. http://www.walmart.com/ip/The-First-Years-Soothie-Bottle-Starter-Set-BPA-Free/10877976
