InactiveShe does not seem to be in pain when she spits up. We thickened her
formula so she wouldn’t spit up as much – therefore acid wouldn’t come
up as much. That is what the ped said anyway. It does seem to help with
the amount of spitup – it is a lot less then it used to be. But I still hear
her swallowing a lot. The ped said that she did not think a change in
formula was necessary – she didn’t think she had problems with the milk.
When did you start solids? She seems to gag on those alot. I tried a little
cereal in a bowl – but she gagged the whole time – so I gave on that.

InactiveJust wanted to add one more thing about the compounded prilosec… assuming that it’s being compounded correctly, each dose needs to contain a minimun of 3.5ml to ensure that there is enough buffer to protect the drug (according to the marci-kids research).
Hang in there, hopefully once you get the reflux sorted out the other pieces will fall into place.

InactiveOn the tummy time question (and welcome!). If you can do it, yes please keep your baby on her tummy whenever you have time adn she can take it. Wait for a while after the feedings or just try to do it for 5 minutes before the following feeding. Matthew was pretty sick and cried and cried as a baby and we gave up on tummy time and we now have to teach him tummy time when he is 11months old and walking. It is good for many things, including transitioning and also strengthening the body. If i knew then what i know now, i would have let him cry a bit more and do a little bit more of tummy time. That is just my experience!!

Keymastermany people suggest holding off on solids…until 6 months or so…
again, it’s all linked to from my welcome/intro

I think the ‘main’ issue here is the low prilosec dose? maybe it is a formula issue? please get to a Ped GI asap…

InactiveI agree with Thais about the tummy time. Even a few minutes at a time several times per day will help. I gave up with Myles because he cried and cried, but now he’s nearly 10 months old and behind developmentally. He can only get to his hands and knees for a few seconds before flopping back down. His sisters were crawling by now. I know he’ll catch up, but if he’d spent some time on his belly when he was smaller he’d probably be better off now.
And, yes I do think it’s the reflux waking her up. My middle child was never properly medicated for her reflux and she woke up every 20 – 60 minutes every night of her life until she outgrew it at 8-9 months. When she woke up I’d give her her nuk and she’d go back to sleep or try to sleep but be she’d be back up over and over again all night long. I think Laura’s right…the nuk helps them feel better, but the reflux will keep waking them up until they are properly medicated or they outgrow it. It’s funny but Ellie gave up her nuk just a few weeks after she outgrew reflux.
If I was you I’d fax the marci-kids info today and call the doctor later or tomorrow and try to get her a higher dose of Prilosec. I didn’t press it very hard with Myles doctor for the first month or two and he continued to suffer. Finally when I’d had enough I sent her the info and called her three times in one week and she finally prescribed the higher dose he needed. Within days he was better. I wish I had done it sooner. Also, I’d make a GI appt now in case you don’t get anywhere with her current doctor. You can always cancel it if you don’t need it later.

InactiveHi and welcome! My little guys was constipated on and off for a while back and I did the thermometer trick (ok it’s a bit yucky) when he was grunting and straining and seemed to be trying to go, upstairs we went to “check his temperature”..worked every time..I only used it when he REALLY seemed to need it, as like your daughter, prune juice and Karo didn’t work!!! I started Aidan on baby food at 4 months, stopped when he had a rough spot (my fault I cut his meds in half b/c I thought he was doing so good) He’s been back on baby food since he was about your daughters age, I’ve figured out now what he can and can’t eat, carrots, bananas and apples are his “evil” foods! but he can eat most anything else, and has progressed to those disolveable puff things and biter biscuits, and non acidy table food in his baby safe teether thing. I make a lot of my own foods because EVERY number 2 food seems to be mixed with bananas, apples and carrots!!!
