InactiveMe again… We are going to try yogurt tomorrow. Just wondering if you
would recommend yo-baby or instead just regular adult plain yogurt with
fruit puree added? I’m not too concerned about sugar content, but just
wondering if one would be easier to digest than another. Marisa has
been on regular Enfamil now for 2 weeks and started cheese three days
ago. If she can tolerate/likes the yogurt we plan to slowly drop her
afternoon bottle… TIAJune 22, 2006 at 11:00 am #10284Anonymous
InactiveI would use the Yo baby, we had great success with it when we were introducing dairy to Brodie and he still eats it. It’s expensive, but isn’t everything!!

InactiveThanks Robin – I had read some old posts about it causing loose stools
in babies that could handle other dairy so I was worried but happy to
hear you say that about Brodie and also know that my friend has her
twins eating it and they couldn’t have dairy until 12 months either…
I guess will pick some up today!June 22, 2006 at 11:52 am #10287Anonymous
InactiveSorry Karen, no advice. I was just wondering how many bottles Marisa takes right now, and how many ounces, and at what time of day. Sorry for so many questions, and don’t mean to hijack, I’m just trying to sort out dropping 1-2 bottles for Hailey.

InactiveDon’t apologize Lori! Marisa currently has 3 bottles – 6.5-7 ounces at
8 or 9 am (depending on wake time and if had big breakfast), 4-4.5
ounces at about 2pm or so and 5.5-6 ounces around 7pm. I usually also
make her cereal at dinner time with 1.5 ounces formula. She generally
gets about 18 ounces a day – sometimes closer to 19 sometimes closer to
16 (like yesterday). Her solids are before her bottles. When we drop the afternoon bottle we plan to increase the other two
bottles to 7 ounces each. She also takes sips of formula from her straw
cup during breakfast and dinner (she has her fiber juice in there with
lunch and for snacks). Our Ped wants her around 18 ounces/day but said yogurt counts for a 1-1
exchange – so maybe we’ll aim for 15-16 ounces formula and 2-3 ounces
yogurt/day if she likes and can handle it.June 22, 2006 at 1:50 pm #10294Anonymous
InactiveHi Karen,
The only down side to trying Yo-Baby is that she will probably refuse unsweetened yogurts later on. The nutrionist that I see recommends Dannon Fruit on the Bottom, or Plain, because it is the brand with the least amount of sugar. You can add puree’s like you said to give it some flavor. That’s what I would do.

I’m thinking about trying yogurt with Myles soon, too.
Good luck. I hope she loves it and tolerates it well.

KeymasterI use(d) organic plain yogurt & added in purees…then, I just added in/mixed the plain yogurt together w/ the yogurt of the flavored ‘smaller’ container…now that jonah is (practically) 3, he’s wise to me & says, “I want the LITTLE one, not the big one!!!” meaning that he doesn’t want any plain yogurt (from the big container) mixed in to the (yummy sweet flavored) small containered one

InactiveLOL Laura – he’s a smart one!
Christine – that’s interesting. But honestly, as long as she likes the
Yo-Baby or otherwise and tolerates it I don’t mind sugar content. I
don’t like unsweetened yogurt either!June 22, 2006 at 4:28 pm #10317Anonymous
InactiveWe had problems with Yo baby as we have tried it a couple of times. It was just loose stool and no other problems. We have given him dannon vanilla yogurt or some with fruit and have had no problems at all. I honestly wouldn’t pay the extra money for the yo baby vs. adult yogurt. The real difference from my understanding is the milk fat content.

InactiveHi Karen – we went right to the regular yogurt. First the plain
with a little fruit puree and then on to vanilla and now whatever we
have. Believe it or not, we can switch between the plain or fruit
flavored and he doesn’t mind – just LOVES yogurt no matter what.
Hopefully Marisa will respond the same way. Good luck – let us
know!June 22, 2006 at 5:44 pm #10330Anonymous
InactiveI must have the only kids who HATES yogurt!!!

InactiveThanks Tricia – can’t decide which to try but I did buy some Yo-baby so
I guess I’ll go that route and if it gives her loose stools try
regular…Actually, Lori, my SILs baby hates yogurt too!

InactiveWhy would yo-baby give loose stools but not regular yogurt? I would think it’s probably quite different from baby to baby in that department.
Good to know I’m not the only one with a yogurt-hater! She also hates applesauce or other fruit purees. Now that I think of it, maybe she just hates being spoon fed!!!!!

InactiveGood luck Karen, hopefully Marisa will handle it fine.
Lori – you are probably right. Nate used to love yogurt,
applesauce, etc until he was old enough to pick stuff up himself and
after that he didn’t want anyone to feed him. So………maybe
Hailey just wants to be little miss independent!!!

InactiveKaren ~ I have no idea why but Hailey had horrible loose stools when I gave her Yo-Baby. It could have been just part of her “toddler diarrhea” but at the time I really thought it was the yogurt. Once I switched to lowfat yogurt she was fine. She loves the Danimals drinkable yogurts. As far as eating yogurt, she goes from liking it to not liking it. She’s pretty much like that with all foods though.
I would do exactly what you are doing, try the Yo-baby and if it causes a problem switch to regular!
