Okay, thanks for all the tips on the solutabs. I think the pressure of the compounded prevacid and wondering if it really was working or not was just about more than I could take! My doc ordered solutabs today and I just gave him his first dose.

BUT!!!! Last night was a nightmare, up all night long. Took him to the doc today and guess what! Double ear infection! Uggggggh! I can’t take much more! But the PA I saw was wonderful (my doc was out today) and she said basically if the Ceftin doesn’t work we might as well get tubes! Finally, a mother’s point of view!

My question is I got the solutabs just to be on the safe side b/c I think the reflux is rearing it’s ugly face again which makes sense with the ear infection. Do I need to spread out the antibiotic and the solutabs a certain amount of time? I just gave him the solutab at 5 pm, can I give his antibiotic at 9? This is going to be messed up b/c he normally goes to bed at 7:30. I should have given the antibiotic first. Oh well, too late! Is there an amount of time I should wait btwn? Is 4 hrs enough!

I could open a drugstore with all my meds!

I don’t think you have to space antibiotics from Prevacid solutabs. I just would not give them at the same time since the solutabs have to be given on an empty stomach.

You have to space out antibiotics and antacids, but not prevacid.

Erica! Can’t believe I’m reading this! We just went to the doc. today, and Ben has an ear infection too! Weren’t we doing this the same time last time, too?

Anyway, from what I can tell (and Ben’s on Omnicef), you have to space antibiotics at least 2 hours from antacids that contain magnesium or aluminum. So, I think your fine with the solutabs. Just watch it if you give him any Mylanta.

OK, so what gives. Alana has a double ear infection as well (I suppose I shouldn’t complain too loudly given it is her first one). But I finally truelly understand what all you guys are going through (whereas previously I could only be empathetic!). Luckily for us though, no reflux!

BTW, can anyone tell me if having an ear infection will affect a hearing test. Alana has her routine one year hearing screen next week. I don’t want to get a false positive and have to go back again. Maybe I should reschedule. Sorry to steal your post Erica

Can we join the club too? The boo-hoo, my kid has bad reflux and an ear infection and I have SO many meds to give I don’t know how to space them out-club? Landen has an ear infection too. I was giving the antibiotic after his bottle (which of course was after the solutab) I never thought about spacing it any longer…jeez, glad I didn’t screw that one up!

Well, our first night with all the meds seemed to go better! I went to go give him his antibiotic at 10:30 pm and when I shook it up and opened it it was like thick pudding and spewed all over the counter. Soooooo, I had to take it back to Walgreens at 10:30 at night and get a new one. The kid didn’t put enough water in it apparently. He went to bed at 7:30 and I gave him Tylenol and he slept till 4 and then took a bottle and more Ibueprofen and back to sleep. When it rains it pours!

the pressure of the squirt helps to clear out those ears and keep the next infection from coming

we swear by the stuff!

I think an ear infection can effect a hearing test, especially if there is a lot of fluid. I’m pretty sure I’ve read at least one post about a baby not doing well on a hearing test due to infections, but doing better after tubes and when the infection cleared up.

I hope all of your little ones are feeling better soon.

theresa—-i think i’d make sure the ear infection was cleared up before you do the hearing test—–if there is any fluid i would think it could affect the test.

sorry to hear so many of you are having ear problems. sylvia was spared that problem as a baby—-i think she might have had 1 ear infection.
