zantac and prevacid in one day?

Was your LO ever on both medines in one day like did he or she take both meds? if so what was there dosage and how often?

there are some other posts on this…but from what I understand, it is helpful to give both medicines while waiting for the prevacid to take effect (could take 2 weeks).
However, you must space them out. The zantac can be given as long as it is 4 hours before/after the prevacid.

Prevacid is 15mgs tabs 2 in the am…. and Zantac is 1-2 mls 3x’s daily.

I would split the Prevacid & do 15mg in a.m., Zantac (2-3mL) in the afternoon & 15mg Prevacid before bed. Then save 2-3 mL of Zantac to use in the middle of the night if you need to… but that’s just me.

same. I liked having meds at night to help w/ sleeping. if you give dose in morning there’s nothing ‘left’ by afternoon, as babies speed through their medications…

ETA (edited to add): yes jonah was on both meds at once for quite some time

Laura thanks so much for posting the link to the med. combo discussion… It really helped me to see that other babies are screaming (louder than I thought was possible), getting red and sweaty…and that it will come to an end!

That sounds great everyone thanks again… One more quicky tho, the prevacid and zantac seem to be doing great……. compined together thru out the day… although my next question is can he be on it for a while or should i just give him zantac along with the prevacid for just a week or two?????

He can be on it like that for quite a while! We always used a PPI & Zantac or Pepcid together (just spaced out) Many moms on here do and lots of GI’s will tell you its ok

hi, my 3 month old was recently on both zantac and prevacid for a 2 week period while we waited for the prevacid to kick in and then once it did we stopped the zantac. he was on .9 mL zantac twice daily and was approx. 11 lbs, 7 oz at the time.

Now he’s on 7.5 mg prevacid solutab once daily and so far is doing well. We see the GI specialist Monday to discuss his issues and see what more we can be doing for him to keep him in the happy zone b/c this is the first time in 3 months that he’s not screaming bloody murder all night long. ;0
