Our first daughter had silent reflux and Abby was doing the exact same thing (arching, crying/screaming, resisting drinking, grunting) and also would not swallow her formula – would just let it run down her face. It was so discouraging. We noticed it right when she was born and she had her upper GI done at only 1 week old. Our oldest daughter was able to have her symptoms controlled with Pepcid so we tried that with Abby which didn’t work – then tried Prevacid which also did not work (looking back, it was probably the dose, not the medication, that didn’t work as she was only on 7.5mg 1 time per day). Once I did a lot of convincing to our family doctor, he agreed to let us try the Zegerid at the dose recommended. Now he prescribes it a lot.

with zegerid do you have to adjust the dosage according to their wt as they grow? do you know if this med is expensive or about the same as prevacid?

Did your child have any side effects to the med, or did they tolerate it well?

We gradually had to increase Abbys dose. Then when she reached close to one year, we took away the afternoon dose, then the morning dose, but she had to stay on the evening dose until this past August as she seemed to have some problems at night without anything.

It is expensive but our insurance covered most of it. There is also a $30.00 off coupon on http://www.zegerid.com that you can print off many copies and keep using them.

Abby didn’t have any side effects other than resisting taking it when she got to be about 1 year old so we switched to the 40mg packets that you mix with Mylanta Cherry Supreme which she liked much better.
