InactiveSo, I haven’t been on this forum in almost 3 years (my son had reflux and is now 3 and recovered-yay). However, I now have an 11 week old daughter and am back in reflux hell. =( We have tried zantac and prevacid to no avail, and are now on zegerid. My son did quite well with zegerid, but he was formula fed and we mixed it in his bottle. My daughter is mostly breastfed and we’re having a hard time administering the zegerid for her. She is on the 20 mg packets….any suggestions?

Keymasterhi & welcome back! sorry that you need to be here, but glad you can get the support you need!
try this link?
https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=6191&KW=zegerid+breastfeedingalso: what formula was you son ‘on’ – did he have issues w/ milk and/or soy?
one more thing, lol:
if you have any zantac left, you can give that, too, as you ‘get the meds straight’ – just make sure to space the zantac 4 hrs from the zegerid- and you can caculate a PROPER zanatacc dose of 10 mgs per kilo- don’t ‘just take my word on it’- read here:
https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8288&PN=1and here’s a conversion chart to figure weight in kilos:

InactiveMy son was on your basic lactose free, and did not seem to have milk/soy allergies. I’m not as concerned about that b/c I, myself am lactose intolerant and have very little to no dairy.
another new symptom she’s developed today is a very raspy/wheezy cry. is this normal? i don’t remember that at all with my son. i feel so badly for her when she wants to eat and just cries with each swallow. =(

Keymastertry some mylanta in the meantime?
mylanta cherry supreme is the kind w/o any aluminum- if you can’t find it, the CVS brand has a variety w/o any alumimum…
give in 1ml increments up to 5ml over a 24hr period- if you see loose stools, ‘back off.’ this might help some…June 26, 2010 at 1:32 am #66559Anonymous
InactiveI only have a sec (NEED to be in bed-lol) but wanted to say that marci-kids recommends the Zegerid 40mg packets for kids under 2 yrs old. You either mix up the packets w/ water, then add Mylanta (or you can add Tums Quik-Paks w/ water – this is what we do) b/c babies/kids under 2yo need the extra buffer. Soooo… maybe (since you’re on the 20mg packets) this is why you’re having issues?! My ds (5mo) has been on Zegerid since 1mth old & has always taken it VERY easily & he’s ebf fwiw. My 2yo is on it too & though he fought it @ first, he takes it super easy now too.
Hope that helps!
