zegerid……food or no food?

The pharmacist put stickers on dd’s zegerid that says take one hour before eating and do not take with anything other than water. Do I ignore this? I can give it in her bottle of formula, right?

Yup! Ignore the stickers… the pharmacists have no idea often how to give PPIs. You can put it in her bottle if you want. You can feed or not feed at any time relative to the meds, that’s the great part. Good luck.

Lori is right. Just make sure if you mix it in the bottle that she drinks all of it to get all of the Zegerid. We mix Abby’s in one ounce of formula so we are sure she takes it all. Then we have a second bottle ready with the rest of her formula.

So happy you were able to convince your doc – keep us posted!!

That makes me so mad that we know more than the Pharmacists!! I have gotten our Minneapolis CBS News affiliate to agree to do a story on Pediatric GERD. I hope to have them report on the inconsistencies and lack of knowledge that we all have experienced with both Dr.’s and Pharmacists.

Thanks ladies! I started dd on it last night. I did the 1oz with the meds and another bottle with the rest of her formula. She drank it right up! I am so anxious to see results. We have seen improvement with the prevacid, but not as much as I’d like to. Anyhow, thanks for your replies. I figured I’d just need to ignore the stickers!

& let them know about how doctors will tell a mother to stop breastfeeding!!! I’ll talk to them!! BIG pet peeve of mine- STRONGER than a PET PEEVE!!! A MAJOR AGGREVATING ANNOYANCE!!!!!!!!!!! there are a LOT of things that can be tried/evaluated before a mother *might* have to stop!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is so great that she takes the medication easier. Just want to remind you if you haven’t read the post already that there is a $30.00 coupon on the Zegerid website which applies to the amount of your out of pocket expense. I know the Zegerid is kind of expensive so anything helps out. Our co-pay was $39.00, then we got the $30.00 off so it was only 9.00 for almost 2 months worth of meds. Great deal!!

Laura! That is my plan, I have contacted Dr. Phillips and Joel to see if they would like to participate in the story. My goal is to toally spread the word about MARCI-Kids. I am so angered by the fact that I am in Minnesota and nobody is aware of this “Midwest Acid Reflux Children’s Instute!”

Abigail has had looser poopies for quite some time now – not sure if it is the Alimentum or the Zegerid. Our doc said that as long as she stays hydrated and is drinking well to not worry about it. Often times, the side effects go away after using the med/formula for a while.
