zegerid for eight week old

My son who is 8 wks old and has had vomiting issues since 3 wks old, had pyloric stenosis corrected and since has had an UGI and dx with reflux. He is currently on Prevacid 7.5mg once a day and it does not seem to be working. I was looking at Marci-kids website and saw the med Zegerid and was thinking of asking my Pediatrician about switching him to this, but was wondering do you do the full dose as recommended by this site or since he is so young, should it be a lower dose. Does anyone have any expierence with this med and baby so young. I just want my baby to stop crying in pain all the time, he wants to eat all the time and hardly sleeps on his really bad days. I just want some relief. Any ideas, please give.

Is zegerid better then prevacid? From reading I see 7.5mg once a day is a low dose, should I ask for a higher dose, before switching meds? Just confused, want what is best for my son. Can anyone recommend a ped GI in the orlando/kissimme area of florida.kntoner42007-11-03 11:03:55

personally I would try a higher dose of prevacid before I switched meds completely. There have been some babies on here that can’t take Zegerid b/c of all the sodium bicarb in it. The solutabs are a bit of a pain with meal timing, but that does get better and more manageable. We started at 7.5mg/day and then went to 7.5mg 2x/day and are now at 15mg 2x/day and that is what it took to get me a happy baby so I would push for a higher dose personally.

We didn’t start prevacid until 10 weeks b/c it took that long for us to do all the trial and error with formulas and zantac and by 15 weeks we were at 30mg/day, but I know many lo’s who has been on it from 2 months on so I know you are safe, don’t worry about that. Just make sure your lo isn’t in pain anymore that is the main thing to worry about.

Glad I saw this post. I was going to ask the SAME thing. My lo is 8 weeks old and weighs 11 pounds. He is on 7.5 mg. 2 x’s per day. I am thinking we need a higher dose also.

Beth, You say that some of the lo’s cannot handle the Sodium Bicarbonate, in which way do you mean? Does it give them an upset stomach or runny poops? Thanks Wendy

I can’t speak from experience as we have always been on prevacid, but I think it was more of tummy cramps, maybe some other moms can chime in. I know Jilly78 tried it and it didn’t work but she is currently moving so I don’t know if she is checking much, you may want to pm her and she if she answers you.
