InactiveLeo, I hope the Zegerid works wonders for Kendra. I read somewhere that the reason the package insert says to give it on an empty stomach has something to do with the makers of Zegerid not doing the studies needed yet to make the claim that it can be given with or without food. Basically it’s a hoop they haven’t jumped through yet, and therefore the FDA won’t let them make the claim, but Dr. Phillips says it’s fine to give it with or without food.
Good luck and please let us know how Kendra does.I don’t know about the storing mylanta and Zegerid together. I hope someone knows for sure.September 24, 2007 at 5:10 pm #43225Anonymous
InactiveHow did you know when they outgrew the silent reflux? I know it is a ways off but I am just curious. Also, Leo, how long have you been treating Kendra and have you seen any results yet? I am so ready for Ainsley to be better. Anyone who can tell me what to expect in the next couple of months would be great. We started the zegerid last thursday and we are also still doing the zantac as well. I think the zantac is starting to quit working though. We have used it about a week. I just want to know how much improvement I can hope to expect. Really any advice or encouragement would be good at this point. 🙂

InactiveHey Leo, I hope you see this, but another mom just posted in this section about how the mylanta should only be mixed with the Zegerid only up to an hour before giving it. So, I’m not sure what to think now. She said she emailed Dr. Phillips about this directly.

InactiveNaomi,
thank you for the heads up. I mixed 6 days worth and have used that mix for 3 days now
. Kendra didn’t seem too upset, but she is also on Zantac. Although i have been given her the extra zantac dose at nigt b/c she was waking up at night again; even when she has been on the antibiotic for a couple of days. it does make sense a bit to mix it just before you are ready to use it. i didn’t think it matter. Oh well, better safe than sorry
.Ellenwood,Kendra reflux got better around 6 months old. She has DGE now and that makes things difficult. Kendra was on prevacid for 13 months before we switched one week ago. Well, i think the meds have helped keep her esophagus from getting damage from the reflux acid, but it did not help the pain a whole lot b/c she wasn’t on a high enough dose. Things got better with time. I hope is the same for you.Increase the zantac a bit if you feel comfortable, since you won’t be using it soon anyways. Does your little one sleeps elevated, at alest 30 degree angle? That helped Kendra a lot, when she was younger. We still use a tucker sling.LeoHugsSeptember 24, 2007 at 8:04 pm #43240Anonymous
InactiveI also emailed Jeffrey Phillips directly and he said
It is ok to mix the Mylanta cherry supreme with the suspension in advance and store in the refrigerator. Just make sure you shake it before administering.

Inactiveellenwood,
I knew Eliana’s silent reflux was gone (or much improved) at 9 months because she had been a horrible sleeper and she hated to eat, and both things just suddenly got better. I think most babies outgrow it more gradually, but it was a sudden turnaround for my little one.As for what to expect..I’ve heard that Zegerid works faster than Prevacid in getting things under control, so you should see results pretty soon. If she’s not much better two weeks after starting Zegerid I’d check to see if her dosage is adequate. Most docs under dose. Here’s a site where you can read about some current research into PPI dosing for infant reflux. http://www.marci-kids.com Zantac is a very weight sensitive drug and babies quickly outgrow their dose so it’s not surprising that it’s not working anymroe. Hopefully the Zegerid will give her relief soon. -
