Topic: two girls—two weddings!!
well, i haven’t poked my head in here for some time just to give an update on the heiner family. sylvia has continued to do well since her fundo and having her tonsils and adenoids removed. she gave us a little reason to be concerned twice recently these last four months or so. we went through a bought of tummy problems and wretching, which prompted the ped gi to check her for celiac—but she does not have it,and the tummy problems seem to have disappeared. most recently, she complained of a lot of leg aches, but one day her hip joint started hurting so bad she limped for a few days—so our orthoped tested her for rheumatoid arthritis. now, she seems to be fine. kassie has been doing so well with her eating disorder that she finally put on enough body weight to start her period—-right around 20 years old. tianna found the courage to tell me that she has still been struggling with her eating disorder since high school—-i had thought she was well all this time. however, she has not gotten anywhere near a bad as she was when she had to be hospitalized. both of them now have good incentives to get and keep themselves well, now. kassie got engaged about 3 weeks ago–and tianna got engaged two weeks after kassie!!! kassie is getting married december 17, and tianna is getting married november 19—-i am hoping i will still be sane by the end of the holidays!! leif’s little girl, echo, is now a year old and is the prettiest little thing and getting into everything. kraigs twins are also a year old. his little girl, landry is a sweet little thing and smiles all the time. his little boy , austin, scares me—-that kid can scream like nobody’s business—and for a long time—he is definitely a mommy and daddy’s boy. daisy jane has a little boy that is about 6 weeks old and as cute as can be. he was so good for the first two weeks, but he’s gotten pretty fussy and is spitting alot—i’ve already told her i think she should be making an appt. with the ped gi—i think she is going to wait it out a littlr longer—-but she lives in the same town as the ped gi that helped us so much—so i know she has an excellent dr. close at hand. AND——tonight elliot jumped from a table and tried to touch the basketball hoop at the chruch house—-and fell and broke his arm!!! life is just an on going adventure around here!!
Topic: MSPI and Villi blunting
Does anyone know if undiagnosed MSPI can end up damaging the stomach lining?
Our 18 month old had a scope done 2 months ago and it showed this. The GI was suspecting celiac but it couldn’t be confirmed. He is an adopted embryo and the donor family tested for celiac and it was negative…His IGA that was low is now also normal …still waiting on IGG to come up….so…there is nothing pointing to celiac.
Now, when he was on formula..he never handles it well..it wasn’t bad, but not great. He always had mucous stools, sleep disturbance…when he was 11 months old, we put him on rice milk because we thought he was having some allergic reactions..his tummy did much better…oh and the two times we tried giving him soy formula, he threw it up….he also developed eczema and a rash…fast forward..he had all kinds of allergy testing done, all negative so we gave him cow milk…. he had sleep disturbances and a runny nose, I recently changed him to goat milk, the runny nose went away and he is sleeping 11-12 hours straight now…not a peep.Ever since I took him off of Zegerid and he is now on goats milk, he acts so much better…he is also FTT and recently gained 1.5 lbs…
I just want to know if MSPI can cause all of this, but mainly the villi damage…
Topic: Biopsy results…not clear
Our LO had a biopsy 2 months ago, he ate gluten for 30 days prior…. his Iga was a 1 several months before but now is normal. Only his IGG is mildly low.
When the GI came out of the procedure room after doing the scope, she said it’s Celiac…but…when the pathology report came back she said it couldn’t confirm it…she then sent us to an immunologist and said she would be interested to hear what he had to say…. he said no allergic reaction, immediate or delayed (has been tested for both) to anything….at all. He said with his immune deficiencies, which he thinks is transient….he thinks all his previous illness might have caused the villi blunting….severe diarrhea for a week, vomiting 15 times one night, multiple ear infections etc. He was on a lot of antibiotics for weeks on end and taking motrin for a couple of months, daily…Here is what the report said….mild villi blunting and crypt-hyperplasia….other features of celiac are not present.
What do you make of this? We haven’t been back to the GI yet, will go in April….
Topic: Blunted Villi
A few months ago our Pedi did some lab work on our LO…she did the IGA and TTG, celiac panel. He was having a lot of diarrhea, then vomiting, prolonged rash and some eczema, couldn’t wean off of PPI and became lactose intolerant. This all happened after putting him on all table foods.
The panel came back normal but the IGA was low. Also, he was not on gluten because I suspected him having a problem with wheat…the nurse didn;t tell me he needed to be eating it. But with the IGA being low, we went to a GI…we put him on gluten for 30 day, in which he did very good… he had the scope….the GI said the villi was damaged and there was some polyps forming and it looked like celiac to her, but the pathology report couldn’t confirm that. So she sent us to an immunologist…he test for delayed gluten reaction, it was negative…he has no allergies at all, he also retested his IGa this time it was normal, his IGG is a little low but he believes it’s transient. he is also not gaining weight, he has fallen off of the growth charts. So, what would you make of that? The immunologist is sending us back to the GI and he is wondering if the Villi is damaged because he was so sick for 3 months…he was getting one stomach virus after another. This sucks becasue he is 16 months old now and we have been trying to figure out what happened for 6 months now. We don’t jknow if it is Celiac or what. he is on a gluten free diet but nothing has changed for him. Still acts the same, feels the same etc. Just not gaining any weight. He is off of the PPI now…
He is also an adopted embryo and there is no known family history. None of the immediate family on the donor side has any food allergies or problems.
Topic: who has dealt with EE
i just had another scope last week because i was having trouble swallowing again. i’ve been having stabbing pains in my stomach when i first breath in the morning, and chest apin again—-so, i haad to quit fighting taking the prevacid. the scope showed gastritis—but it is healing—i think it was probably caused by teh hydrocortisone i have to take for my adrenal insufficiency. there was no ring this time to cut, but i showed eosinophils—enough that at least one lab i looked at would consider it to be eosinophilic esophagitis. not something i want. my most recent celiac test still shows a clean Ttg—so no celiac, but for the first time gliadin antibodies were tested—and i’m starting to show antibodies to gluten. it is only one point over the cut-off, so i don’t know how signifigant it is. but i’m thinking maybe i should go totally gluten free with my girls for a little while and see if things improve.
