Hi Stacey –
I’m so sorry to hear this – you guys have been through so much that this must be blowing your mind. I just wanted to add that my husband’s best friend (the best man in our wedding) recently learned that he has celiac disease. He used to be sick all the time, and generally just didn’t feel well. Since he changed his diet he feels so much better and has such strongs feelings about food allergies, intolerances, and all of that. He and his wife have come up with some really great foods to eat, some of which I’m sure would be great for Hailey if it came to that. They’ve had us over for many meals and I would never know what I was missing if I didn’t know. If you find out this is the case and need some recipe ideas, I’d be more than happy to share them with you.
Good luck – keep us posted!

Stacey, I think she put her e-mail in one of her posts. I will try to find it and bump it up for you. Maybe she will look on the boards soon and see your note.

I don’t, but I’d bet Laura or Eli’s mom (Tracy) probably does. I know Laura’s isn’t private, but not sure about Tracy’s.
Sorry to hear what you are going through, Stacey. It’s so hard when you think you are near the end of a lot and then something else starts. Keep us updated on Hailey.

Looks like Christine’s e-mail is private – anyone have it?

Thanks guys. Maybe I will e-mail Christine. Yes, the celiac panel is for celiac disease. If we get any kind of positive result (which I’m not sure if this low IgA is positive or negative and there are some parts of the panel not back yet) then they will do a biopsy of the intestine to confirm celiac. As soon as the full results are in, I’m going to call the office and find out what’s going on…

Hi Stacey,
I hope that doesn’t mean celiac disease, when do you see the dr. to discuss the results? I don’t know much about it, is it hereditary?

Hi Stacey, sorry I can’t help you out. Maybe you can e-mail Christine direct- she probably knows more than anyone. Please keep us posted what you find out.

Well, we are still in the process of doing testing to rule out reasons for Hailey’s loose stools (chronic diarrhea). We did a CBC and Celiac Panel last weekend to check the eosinphil level and to rule out celiac. I just got her celiac results and they aren’t all completely done but one thing that stands out is her Serum IgA level is low – result is 17 and the range is 82-453. I was doing some research and it sounds like a reduced IgA level and celiac go hand in hand. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this. debit342006-2-15 12:35:57

this has been a major topic of discussion on the celiac boards. we don’t eat out, so it hasn’t been an issue for us.

Thanks for the update! I have a friend who has a son with celiac disease. The foods that he can eat are so expensive. I really feel bad for you! Hopefully the prevacid won’t be needed really soon!

there are so many new people on this board—i don’t even know who’s who anymore. but for those who know us, i just thought i’d fill you in on where we are. sylvia continues to do wonderfully. we have her going to bed now at about 8:30 with elliot and samantha—they all share a room. we brush her teeth, say her prayers and put her in bed. she still has a bottle (water only) and her pacifier at night, but we don’t let her have either during the day.
molly seems to be breezing along with the celiac disease. she is as happy and carefree as ever. her teacher at school has a niece with celiac, so she knows all about it. i sent a bag of safe treats to school so that molly can have something when birthday treats come in.
we saw the ped gi last week. he thought that kassie and molly both looked good. kassie had lost about 4 lbs. since october. he was a little more concerned about tianna. she has lost about 8 lbs. since the week before christmas. he said she is the only one that looks sick. he had her thyroid checked, but i haven’t heard back from him yet. we are waiting to get ian’s blood tested again with a different test to know whether or not he has celiac also. the doc did tell us that IgA deficiency is something that goes along with celiac.
it is kind of hard to find things that the kids can bring in their lunches to school. we relied so much on bread and flour products before.
the gi said that their reflux problems could be related to the celiac disease. i am hoping that as they are gluten free for a llonger period of time that we can get them off of prevacid. i could use the extra $100 dollars a month for my groceries. buying and cooking gluten free is costing me a bit more.

Hi Karen-
Well-weekend was puzzling. His cold definitely is better (whew-RSV panic over for now)-sneezing, couging, congestion started to decrease day by day. His nose is still gunky in the am, but goes away mid morning.
We kept up prune juice every day (undiluted-original suggestion by Dr. S) and he got irritable more and more-not screaming just no smiles for us. I’m praying that is not ANOTHER intolerance like rice and formula but rather just made him crampy. And, it did not make him poop any sooner. He still went on the third day to the letter time and all it did was make it super watery rather then loose like normal. My dh and I have decided to stop worrying about it and let nature take its’ course. He’s at least consistent. He does seem v. uncomfortable by that third day though.
Finally, we’re having a weird bottle aversion problem and again I have to stand by that I don’t think it’s acid. Now, he is teething bad-he’s getting two on the UPPER left back! Not sure if they’re molars, but one is definitely angry and ready to pop out any minute. So I know that’s affecting the eating, but he’s also wriggly while he eats and still pulling legs up like it’s pain in abdomen. Do you think that’s connected to the teething too? I’m worried it may be the simply thick because he was doing it last week prior to the prune juice. Can’t get him to sit still for more than 2oz and then he just pushes bottle away.
Sleeping is back to normal at night – sleeping 10 hours straight, but all weekend he would take these two hour naps 2 -3 a day. Maybe that was getting rid of the cold?
So he”s not in out and out pain but he’s definitely not himself. We get the big shots tomorrow (joy). Any words of advice? Of course, am going to bombard ped with questions and my new obsession is celiac disease because Ian’s had all that rice since 1 month.
Little down-Sister in law had a baby 2 months behind us and their baby never cries, is developmentally where Ian is now, and they’re really enjoying parenthood. I am too and I don’t in any way want them to go through this, but I’m bummed we have these ups and downs and I do worry he’ll never be able to eat anything ever. Over the top I know, but it’s one of those down days for us.
How’s sweet Marisa? Read on another post she’s taking the alimentum ok! Are you having any bottle refusal at all? ARe the poops picking up?
Thanks for listening!
Tracy

since feeding my celiac children now involves reading EVERY label EVERY time we shop, i thought i would pass on some info about the new labeling laws for the parents of children with food allergies. the 2006 labeling laws require food manufacturers to list on their label if they contain any of the top 8 allergens—wheat, dairy, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, eggs, and shellfish. hopefull this will be alot of help to all of us. keep in mind, though, depending on the shelf life, and how quickly a product moves, there may still be items on the shelf with old labels. kevieb2006-1-28 19:9:18
CELIAC & WHEAT ALLERGIES
These 2, Celiac and wheat allergies, are not the same but I will post links here about both.

One of the most useful ones I think is Jax Peters Lowell, Against the Grain: the slightly eccentric guide to living well without gluten or wheat. It’s more of an informational book than a cookbook (though it does have some very good — and simple — recipes) but I found it quite useful for what to look for ingredients wise, what I could or couldn’t eat at restaurants, etc. from Christine, Palemer’s Mom https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=4225&a mp;TPN=2
