InactiveHI, I am a new mom of a 2 month old baby girl. and 2 weeks after she was born she wouldn’t stop crying and it wasn’t a cry for food or a clean diaper but more of a ” I am in pain” cry. after hoping it would go away we went to the doctor and he said she as so much inflammation and has acid reflux, we tried Zantac, and of course that didn’t help and then we went back to get something stronger and we now shes on Nexium rapid release. Is it working? I would have to say very little. I now give her both Nexium and Zantac. Nexium first in the morning. Then I give her the Zantac at night, but she still hates it when I put her down or am I am holding her. She stil cries her brains out and always wants me to hold her. I am going crazy here with her crying all the time
. I don’t know what to do anymore. Yes, we have a swing, but she still cries when I put her in it. She wants me to carry her all day and not put her down. And she hasn’t slept in her crib since the day we brought it. She can’t sleep on her back or her side. Seems like nothing is working. I am giving her Formula. Nutromigen. I really wish there was something I could do because shes not a happy baby. Always crying and fussy. Meanwhile I am home all day with a baby that won’t stop crying. Not to mention I can’t go out any where with out her crying her brains out. please help!!! Any questions or input would be great. Thank you so much. June 20, 2011 at 3:34 pm #68543hellbennt

tell me how much she weighs & I can help calculate proper zantac dose- or, you can do it yourself- either way, don’t just take my word on this! research all you can. you’ve found a great place to research!Zantac dosing– my/other’s question (has axid & pepcid doses, too):
as for the nexium, make sure to give on an empty stomach followed by a ‘meal’ 30 minutes lateralso make sure the zantac & nexium are spaced 4 hours apartreadPrevacid 101;
scroll to the last page of this post, (it’s actually also about other PPIs like prilosec, too)
https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1936&PN=0&TPN=1and also visit http://www.marci-kids.com
perhaps both the zantac and the nexium can be increased…once you get the meds ‘right’ then I would look at formula. I would address meds first bcse they are notoriously dosed incorrectly…June 20, 2011 at 5:09 pm #68547Anonymous
Inactivemy baby girl weighs 10 pounds now. But when she swallows thru out the day I know it hurts her because right then she cries and she won’t stop. I don’t know what to do because when we travel she won’t sleep, I mean the minute I rock her to sleep I want to ut her down on the bed and she jumps up so quick and starts yelling so bad that now not only is she yelling she is also wide awake. As long as I hold her she can sleep but, come on who can do that all day? As for waiting for the 30 minute after giving her Nexium, what a joke 10 minutes into the 30 minutes shes crying so bad that she starts tearing and coking, shes hungry thats why. So I don’t or can’t wait the full 30 minutes. Now what? Any other advice. As for products, I have it all and its all unless here at my house.

as for the waiting 30 minutes, yes it IS a joke, that’s why you need to please research about bufferbabies and caracreamit’s all here:Prevacid 101;

https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1936&PN=0&TPN=1there is a way to get the nexium to work immediately & for it to be taken at any time, not having to be timed around meals- it’s all explained in Prevacid 101 and on the http://www.marci-kids.com siteJuly 10, 2011 at 8:42 pm #68628hellbennt

InactiveMy baby girl still cries when we put her down and it seems the Nexium is doing very little for her. I hear it when she swallows that it still hurts. I am all out of ideas at this point. Its so frustrating not to stop her from crying. I have no idea what to tel her Dr. Should I tel them it “kinda” works I wish I knew what to do and had the answer to make the pain stop for her.

Keymasteraw. email dr.philips
Dr. Philips: phillipsjo@health.missouri.edu
and/or call the office: (573) 884-0672
he can help you! he will even speak w/ your doctor!
he knows EVERYTHING about PPIs and will help find the correct dose of PPI for your baby!in the meantime, I would give nexium TWO times a day.make sure to give on an empty stomach, followed by a ‘meal’ 30 minutes later.research all you can.continue w/ zantac!how much does she weigh? I can help you with the dose!it sounds like all I want to do is medicate your baby, but believe me, you’ll KNOW when it’s better, you’ll see a drastic improvement…hold that baby. get a ring sling/pouch/wrap (like a mobywrap)/soft structured carrier (like an Ergo or babyhawk)…research.you can do this!hang in there!July 11, 2011 at 10:43 am #68637Anonymous
InactiveShe weights 12 pounds now. Yeah I should get he sling or wrap. I am trying my very best with my little. She still can’t sleep on her back or her tummy for that matter. But thanks for the info. Whose Dr. Philips? Do you think he will be able to help me?
July 11, 2011 at 10:58 am #68639hellbennt
KeymasterYES! he can help you. he is a PharmD and is the main leader in PPI research at the University of Missouri in researching about PPIs and reflux. He & his team developed caracream, bufferbabies and even the medicine zegerid. He rocks!
for zantac dose- don’t just take my word on ANY of this! Please research all you can and make decisions on your own, based on what you learn…
ok- maximum zantac dose is 10mgs per kilo
so your baby weighs 12 lbs that’s 5.4 kilso
so 10 x 5.4 = 54mgs total of zantac for the day
your bottle says 15mgs/ml
that means for every 1ml of liquid zantac you give your baby, she is getting 15mgs of the medicine zantac, so
to get how much 54mgs is in liquid form, you divide 54 by 15 = 3.6mls a day of zantacyou can give in two equal doses or divide then into unequal portions, giving more in the evening/night…Zantac dosing– my/other’s question (has axid & pepcid doses, too):https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8288&PN=1

InactiveHi. I have not posted in along time, but my daughter who is 4 took Nexium 20mg till she was 2. We gave 10 in the morning before breakfeast and 10mg before dinner. I did wait the 30min, at first I did not because i though I was about to go crazy from all the crying. But after I did I noticed a huge improvement, she went from a crying baby to a smiling and cooing, but It did not improve sleep, so i let her sleep in her swing til lshe was about 6-7 months. I hope that this helps you.

InactiveHellbennt…
I am a little confused.. I give my little one 1ml of Zantac before feeding, twice a day. Is that the right dosage?Thats addiction to the Nexium in the morning on a empty tummy. I got a little confused with your dosages. Another question is, am I suppose to wait 30 minutes before feeding her. If so I don’t. I give her the Zantac and then feed her immediately. Theres so much to learn. and I feel like I am failing.
July 11, 2011 at 7:40 pm #68646hellbennt
Keymasterhang in there! you’re not failing! you’re learning! A++!
you’re doing your utmost to help your baby!
the calculations I figured out for you is for the highest dose of zantac you can give. I suggest (disclaimer: I’m not a medical professional, I’ve ‘just’ been on this board eight years and happen to know my stuff, LOL!) that you give your baby the highest dose of zantac and you can always back off…But me, personally, I say go for it and see what happens. (one of ) the reason(s) why I give the links, etc, is for you (everyone) to see where my answer is coming from, especially when it comes to administering medicine to an infant! My calculations (I’ve copied them into this post, below) tell us that your baby can have 3.6mls of zantac for the dayYou say that you give 1ml two times a day, so that makes it 2ml total that you give her. What I’m saying is that you can INCREASE that dose up to 3.6mls a day. HOW you increase it is up to you- it’s trial and error- it does NOT have to be before a feed- it can be at any time. The zantac CANNOT be given near the Nexium, however. It needs to be spaced at least 4 hrs from the Nexium. What I might do is time the zantac doses around the Nexium…when do you give the nexium? Now, the nexium THAT needs to be given on an empty stomach then followed by a ‘meal’ 30 minutes later. The reasons for this are all in the Medicine Forum…Because of the need to give on an empty stomach, some find that this is difficult for a baby and thus people research and decide to try bufferbabies or caracream or zegerid. I can’t get into all of that here, as I’ve said it all in Prevacid 101
.Prevacid 101:

https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1936&PN=0&TPN=1I hope I’m helping to help clear up any confusion
Please feel free to ask as many questions as you need/want!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ok- maximum zantac dose is 10mgs per kiloso your baby weighs 12 lbs that’s 5.4 kilso
so 10 x 5.4 = 54mgs total of zantac for the day

Inactivesophystanley,
At the bottom of Laura’s first post she mentioned that you should get the reflux meds working first and then check into the formula. Is your baby FF or BF? It is a possibility your LO’s reflux is being made worse by the formula, especially if she has any problems with milk. Just from my own personal experience my LO has MSPI and his reflux was directly related to his milk allergy. Again, this is not the case for all babies, but it is worth talking to your doctor about and looking into if you’re still not having any luck with meds.Laura also has a ton of info on MSPI! LOL!July 12, 2011 at 9:09 pm #68652hellbennt
Keymasterhi rachel!

she mentioned nutrimigen in her first post…
sophystanley, Rachel is right, that formula can also be addressed…rachel: I didn’t want to overwhelm her, lol. My thought process was that once she gets meds up and going then she can see if there are still issues that it might be time to ‘move on’ to an elemental forumula such as neocate. I was thinking that nutrimigen is a good place to start and then get meds ‘right’ and then…hopefully there is no ‘then’…then switch the formula hoping it’s the last piece of the puzzle…just MY thoughts and for sure I don’t have all the answers, lol!July 12, 2011 at 10:13 pm #68653Anonymous
InactiveNo, no, Laura! I missed Nutramigen in the orignal post so I assumed she was using regular off the shelf full-fledged milk protein formula! LOL! By all means if the baby is doing okay with Nutramigen and meds, don’t switch! I just didn’t read through the original post well enough.
And I think you do a darn good job of helping all the parents on here! -
