InactiveI was just wondering what you were all doing for costumes for the kids this Halloween.
Sarah is going to be a “supergirl”, even though I did everything in my power to convince her to be either a ladybug, a princess, an elephant, or a ballerina (all costumes that I have in the house). Well not my little tomboy… so I ran around the whole city trying to figure out how to make a supergirl outfit. I finally got things together, and yesterday I heard her tell her teacher that she’s going to be a ballerina! All I could say was “NO WAY. YOU’RE GOING TO BE SUPERGIRL!”. Her teacher looked at me like I had lost it. But after I explained she was on my side.
And Hailey is going to be a ballerina. We had the costume at home already and she loves it. So that saved me some time and money. She giggles whenever I take it out and when I put on her tutu she starts laughing and dancing and puts her hand up above her head like she’s doing ballet. It’s so cute. And quite an interesting sight to see with her new crewcut!!! Something doesn’t look quite right and I can’t help but laughing.
It’s so much fun!

InactiveWe want pictures!!!! Matthew is not getting dressed up this year… not that he cares at all – dressing him is a struggle… but the reason is we are going to Spain tomorrow!! Not a pleasure trip unfortunately, but i am not going to have a pity party right now, but i do love going home and walking around and seeing some friends!! So Matthew is going to have to wait until next year….
I have a question – do the kids really expect only candy when they go trick-or-treating… my ignorance on this subject is total… i thought it would be nice to give some little stuff… one of my friends does that and some say it is wonderful and others say kids hate it

InactiveI just keep it simple and give candy. That’s what the kids expect. I’ve seen others do stickers, pencils, or fancy erasers. In the end, I think kids just want a junk-fest, but that’s just my opinion.
I will post pics! But unfortunately our download cable for our camera is broken yet again, so not likely for a while (if we can ever even figure out how to get them off the camera!).
We didn’t do Sarah’s first Halloween either, she was only two months old. But now we have “monkey see monkey do” going on over here… Hailey is such a follower where Sarah is concerned that we can’t leave her out. It’s so cute too. Anyhow, we have a “costume trunk” in our house where I just add to all the kids costumes and funny hats and recycle them for each event. Saves money.
As for going to Spain, I hope that everything is okay and that there is nothing serious wrong. On the bright side, you can add to your air miles collection- maybe save up for Kiddie Club Med!!!

InactiveGreat topic Lori!!
Kayla is going to be a princess (surprise, surprise). Most of the time when we get home, off go the regular clothes and out comes all the princess crap. She is so into all of that stuff. Oh well, it could be worse.
Abby is going to be a Pooh. It was on sale at the second hand kids store. Kayla insisted that she have it – I really thought we could save a little money and Abby could go as a BABY (haha).
It would be fun to start a post for everyone to post pics – that would be really cool!!

InactiveHenry is going as a giraffe. First year trick or treating. fun fun!
Lucy will be a pea in a pod. too cute

So how do you all handle the kids getting candy, but not being able to eat it due to their diet? Henry surely doesn’t need all that candy! In fact, he’s only tasted chocolate 2 times! He’s only had a lollipop once. Sugar is just not a part of his diet. He reacts badly to it. What should I do about that?

InactiveThis year Noah is going to be a pumpkin. I’m recycling the costumes that I had from when the boys were little. My oldest, Alec, is going to be an Army man fitted with a gas mask (one of my paranoid purchases after 9/11). Connor, who is 7, wants so badly to be the Grim Reaper with a sickle!! I dont know whats wrong with that boy! I think he’s been watching too many cartoons that he should’nt. So needless to say, he will end up being something less gruesome. I’m trying to talk him into being a fireman or Spongebob.

InactiveKaelyn is going to be a leopard. It’s a hand-me-down from a friend, but she loves it. She runs around roaring when she’s wearing it.
The candy issue is a big concern here since Kaelyn really can’t eat any of it. We’ve been to a few birthday parties where candy was handed out. So far, it’s worked for us to bring Rice Krispy treats (made with dairy free margarine) for her and tell her that she can’t have the candy because it will make her tummy hurt, but that she can have treats instead. At the last party we went to, she was so cute about it. She walked around trying to give away her candy, saying “Here you go — makes Kaelyn’s tummy hurt!”

InactiveI painted Austin’s costume, he’s all into those Pokemon cards so he’s being a pokemon card! (worn like a sandwich board thing), and I’m sewing Aidan’s…I can’t sew, at….ALL!!! He’s being one of those little organ grinder monkeys, sometiems they have toys of they with the little red hat and vest and cymbals. I now have no idea why anyone would use sewing as a stress reliever, I want to toss the machine out the window, BUT I made Ausitn’s first halloween costume so I thought I’d continue the tradition..all years after that they are bought at the party store!!!

InactiveSeth is going to be a football player. I ordered the costume from One Step Ahead and they were able to personalize it so it is really cute. He likes to carry around a nerf football so that is what inspired me…He didn’t much care for the costume though when I tried it on him so we’ll see….
I totally agree Halloween is a junk fest. Seth is having a party at school that day and everything on the sign up sheet was pretty much junk. I was a bit nervous since he usually doesn’t eat that much stuff but I figured one day won’t kill him so I decided to keep my mouth shut for once and let him be like the other kids.
As far as what to give out to trick or treaters, I say stick with candy. I gave out stickers and spider rings one year and I found a bunch of them thrown on my driveway!!!

InactiveDylan is going to be a chicken (old navy costume) and Carter is going to be Nemo (disney). I have all these fantasies that I will one day learn to be domesticated, but I am going to stop waiting for that to happen

We only get like one trick-or-treater in our neighborhood, so we have candy but we end up eating it ourselves. Dylan doesn’t realize it is gone the next day as he really doesn’t get any of that food so we will just toss it when he goes to bed. He might notice the difference this year, so I will probably have to make up some tradition that we are collecting it for the elves or something, and we will leave it out for them to take after he is asleep. I don’t know what I am going to do when he starts figuring out the truth about a lot of things

I definitely want to see pictures after the holiday, so get your cameras ready, ladies!!!

InactiveWe always have a big family Halloween party every year, so we all get to dress up, which is fun. Then we dress the kids again for trick or treating on Halloween.
Isaac wants to be a king this year. For some reason I’m having a hard time finding a crown though.
For the little boys I’m just recycling costumes from past years.
Parker is going to be a little green alien and Bryce is going to be a little dalmation puppy.Amanda- Aiden looks so precious in her little costume! It’s adorable.
