Inactivecan anyone tell me about the price difference between zegerid and prevacid? i guess you have to factor in caracream for prevacid?

Inactive(keep in mind he gave you the prevacid dosing; its different than zegerids. my son was on 27 mg of prevacid and when we switched he required 36 mg of zegerid. i now have him on 42 mg when i noticed breaktrhough reflux.)
our ins. wont cover zegerid. i pay $150 out of pocket.
someone was saying they pay 114 for prevacid. plus each caracream kit is 13.50 and i think they last about 1-2 weeks (2 weeks max for stability) depending on the dosing.October 25, 2006 at 6:58 pm #16606Anonymous
Inactivethis is what Dr. Phillips said about zegerid:
Zegerid 40mg packets (not the 20mg packets)
Add 6.5mL tap water to one packet this will make 10mL and contain 40mg (4mg/mL) keep this in a separate syringe in the refrigerator (it is stable for 30 days in the frig – but you will use it up in one day)
Give 3 mL of the Zegerid which is equal to 12mg (along with 3mL Mylanta Cherry Supreme) mixed together in a separate dosing syringe for a total of 6mL – do this three times per day.
Essentially one packet will last each day.JamesonMom2006-10-26 18:16:13

InactiveI used to give Aidan mylanta like candy until I realized it was solving the problem for a short amount of time then giving him horrible stomach cramps (I gave 5 ml) now I only give him 2 at night. (but deff. mix it with the zantac, it’s so much easier for them to take it with the mylanta in there!!!). His doc upped him from 15 to 30 when he hit 16 lbs and that got things under control much better. He might not need 45 mg, I checked the marci kids calculator for Aidan and his range was 30-45 mg for his weight(or something I just remember it giving me a range not just one number), try pushing for a little bit of an increase at a time maybe? oh and you shouldn’t give the zantac within 3 hours (maybe 2?) of the prevacid. Not sure if that rings true for the mylanta, soemone else will hopefully chime in on that one!!!

Keymasteryou can get caracream without a script…but you need a script for capsules of either prevacid or prilosec to mix with the caracream
zegerid is already mixed- it’s w/ the drug of prilosec

InactiveThe doctor just called and is giving us the 30 mg prevacid!!!! holy cow!!! Our fax to him included the marci kids memo and the list from our original post in this thread. i guess we don’t need the zantac and mylanta after all-Dr. Phillips says one keep the other from working. Plus the marci kids people are sending us free caracream samples to try. yeah!!!!! thank you all so much for helping us!

yeah! awesome!! the mylanta doesnt react with PPI’s. i dont think, its the zantac. he told me zantac will prevent the PPI from working.

InactiveMercy has been Granted!!
Hooray! I’m so happy for you and Grant. Myles did great on Prevacid. I hope Grant does, too.
Great job on getting your son what he needs.

InactiveThought I’d post what Dr. Phillips sent to us…
FLAVORx gets CaraCream from us so if they (a pharmacy) have FLAVORx then they can get CaraCream.
I would recommend two doses of Prevacid during the day (based on the 30 mg our doc prescribed), Morning feeding and suppertime feeding then at bedtime give 10mg Pepcid complete. ( He later added these doses must be 2 hours apart)
Dr Phillips
Maybe this will help someone else (it’s based on Grant being 7 mos and 17 lbs.)

Keymaster*note: it has been posted that it might be easier to work with a small, non-chain pharmacy that uses Flavorx rather than a large chain like walgreens, etc. Someone posted that they couldn’t get it via Walgreens and then, perhaps it was Joel who responded, the suggestion of a smaller pharmacy was made…however, it’s always worth a shot to try whichever pharmacy uses Flavorx

CONGRATS on the 30 mg’s! I’m jealous but it also sounds like you’ve had it much worse than me so you deserve this!!!!
But now I have a question: Pepcid Complete? That’s over the counter, right? Isn’t it a chewable tablet though? How do you give it to an infant?
