but would a hiatal hernia not allow the neocate to work properly? i never heard of neocate failing anyone as it is an elemental formula-all amino acids.

Keymasternot the hernia, but hte hernia can aggrevate reflux and still cause baby to be uncomfortable, so maybe even on neocate baby would appear fussy/uncomfortable and then you’d think “hmm…what could it be?” and get testing done…

Inactivethat’s something i like to hear, ladies. that the neocate hasn’t ever failed anyone. 🙂 i really hope that is the case.
searched the planet for a pharmacy who had neocate in stock today to no avail. i will get my hands on some on monday, as they had to order it. why does this make me so excited?!?!
i can hardly wait to start him on the neocate….oh, please please work!Johanna

Inactiveyeah, that’s what i was referring to…the hernia or isn’t there something where the valve has to be repaired…like something stenosis??? that’s why i just want to get started on the neocate – because i feel like if that doesn’t work we may know to go ahead with the testing sooner…i don’t see the point in letting him suffer one moment more than he has to!

Keymasterfrom here: Groupie Intro: my intro: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=853&am p;am p;PN=1&TPN=1
towards the bottom is a link ‘Goin tothe Top!
this will help you with getting neocate covered by insurance & other tips for getting it
in the meantime what some have done is to call the children’s hospital & somehow find the floor with the kids on neocate and ask if they have any to give you- oftentimes they have expired cans, here I mean cans that have just expired & they have to throw them out, and also cans that are just about to expire;
I don’t mean to advocate giving your babies expired formula(!), but there have been parents on here who posted they’ve done this-ask the company or your doctor if this is safe (I’m guessing, note the ‘guessing’ that it is)…

InactiveJohanna,
Good luck with the Neocate. I hope he takes it well and it helps him feel better soon.
I’d be anxious like you and I’d just switch him cold turkey if he was willing to drink it. Like you said, why let him suffer any longer than he has to? My prayers and best wishes are with you.November 11, 2006 at 11:18 pm #17808Anonymous
