With prevacid going OTC, if it’s the same as prescription capsules, everyone can order buffer babies and make their own at marci-kids dosing if they want. No need to try to fight with a doc to get them to agree with marci-kids dose! Wish we had that option years ago!!!
December 1, 2009 at 3:42 pm #64801AnonymousInactiveYes, it is the same. David from marci-kids told me many people now order the Buffer babies for the Prevacid OTC. The Prilosec OTC is good too. Prilosec makes a generic, so it’s much cheaper. Definitely helpful b/c I can’t get a good Rx.
December 1, 2009 at 4:01 pm #64803AnonymousInactiveWe can’t get either in canada as OTC, but prilosec tastes nasty! So prevacid may be a great option.
December 1, 2009 at 5:38 pm #64805AnonymousInactiveOf course when we needed it, it wasn’t an option 🙁 Good to know that for future reference (hope we’ll never need it again)
December 1, 2009 at 9:50 pm #64815AnonymousInactiveBut guys please please keep in mind that if insurance will cover your prevacid/prilosec it is cheaper for them to cover it. I looked the other day and the prevacid otc is about $12 for 14 capsules that are 15mg, which for most of us is really only a 7 day supply if we give 15mg 2x/day which would be $48/month and then tack on the cost of the bufferbabies. I know that my insurance covered the solutabs for $30/month no matter what the dose was so for us since we were lucky to be on a good dose with no fuss it would have been cheaper.. now what you could do is use your script and then buy additional otc to get to the dose that marci-kids recommends… I am happy that it went otc but the price is what kills me!
December 1, 2009 at 10:13 pm #64816AnonymousInactiveWell, the good thing is that the Prilosec OTC comes in generic, so it will be cheaper. David actually recommended the Wal Mart brand and said that it works best w/ buffer babies. Good idea about supplementing the OTC with Rx. That would probably last 2 months. I’m actually in the thick of this right now, so I’ve been considering all of this for the past few days!
December 1, 2009 at 10:23 pm #64817AnonymousInactiveI’m trying to figure out what to do myself, I’m contemplating ordering the Buffer Babies. Does anyone happen to know how much it costs?
December 2, 2009 at 7:07 am #64818AnonymousInactiveWow, that’s pretty pricey!!!
December 2, 2009 at 9:07 am #64831AnonymousInactiveIs the generic prilosec OTC in a capsule form? I bought the “omeprazole” tablets that were next to the Prilosec at walmart for myself when I was pregnant…can you crush a tablet?? Marci-kids website talks about how hard it is to divide the capsules (prevacid) so it’s easier to get the solutabs (which are not OTC).
Katie – who did you contact about getting the free Buffer Babies kit?I still might see if we can get zegerid again since that is what we were used to with Sarah….It just seems so convenient to have the OTC options now! Decisions decisions!!!December 2, 2009 at 12:45 pm #64834AnonymousInactiveYou can crush the tablet ONLY for use with bufferbabies. It ruins the enteric coating, but you’re making it immediate release anyhow, so it doesn’t matter (the buffer protects it).
December 2, 2009 at 4:48 pm #64841AnonymousInactivePrevacid was $50 a month for us with insurance and they just raised our rx copays so it will be even more expensive this month. How much is buffer babies?

December 2, 2009 at 7:49 pm #64851AnonymousInactiveThe first kit is free and refills are $13.50. I think you get a deal if you order a few at a time. Shipping is $10.00 no matter how many kits you get.
December 2, 2009 at 10:12 pm #64858AnonymousInactivefyi. just bought some prevacid OTC.. and it is a capsule as we know.. but not like the OLD pills!.. you CANT break it apart and split the little balls and then put the capsule back together!.. which stinks cuz i am only givivng half in am and half in pm..
December 3, 2009 at 7:55 am #64864hellbenntKeymastercan you open it and store the unused beads in a little container/tupperware?
