Heather – I just got an email response back from Dave at Marci-kids. The first kit is free but it includes all the “hardware”. They only ask that if it doesn’t work out for you, that you send it back to them (they’ll even pay for it!) so someone else can use it. But you are NOT obligated to purchase another kit! Hooray!

Can anyone tell me how to administer half an OTC Prevacid capsule until my BufferBabies arrives? Thanks so much….my Peanut is really suffering!!!!

yes- you open the capsule up somehow then you spill out the beads and split them into two groups/piles/doses

take one pile/group/dose of beads & give to baby on an empty stomach
administer the beads by sprinkling on top of a 1/2 tsp of apple sauce
(wash down w/ 1ml syringe full of water, as needed, or take the top/nipple off a bottle and put a little water in it and let baby suck on the nipple to get the water, or get a medicine pacifier and fill w/ some water and let baby suck it)
follow the dose of prevacid with a ‘meal’ 30 minutes after giving it (the prevacid)

Don’t mean to high-jack the thread, but on last quick question…..since my little one is still so young (a month old on Monday), can I just put the contents of the Prevacid capsule in breastmilk instead of applesauce or juice?? Thanks for all your help!

no. you need the acidity of the applesauce. you can can/should use baby food apple sauce- just wash it down- baby should be fine…it’s a small amount…or try apple juice but I don’t know measurements, etc…

I wouldn’t do applejuice- in my experience it doesn’t buffer it enough & makes the med ineffective :(.

You can do pureed pears or apples (do the baby food kind-Earth’s Best, Beechnut or Gerber)… only do 1/2-1 tsp (we used a medicine cup). We started this around 4 wks old.

Like Erin said, it can’t be breastmilk. Needs to me acidic. I’d try bufferbabies since your baby is so young.

Thanks so much for all the info….we’ve been giving (trying to) the Prevacid OTC in pear puree…..hope the BufferBabies arrives soon……does anyone have any idea how long it takes to receive your trial after you send in your Patient Info Sheet?? The pear puree is tough with a month old little one!

You can try adding the beads to apple juice and then squirting them by syringe… thing is that they won’t dissolve.

can anyone tell me how long the bufferbabies kit last? i know i can get a 42 day supply of prevacid otc…will the amount that comes with a kit be enough to last the 42 days???
