InactiveJustice has been not sleeping and just screaming for days now. Nothing makes him happy for very long. I have no idea what is going on with him, but I feel like I am going to go crazy. He is arching and screaming all the time. Usually I would just give him the boob to calm him down, but even that doesn’t work and I now have to only give it to him if he’s hungry or tired because he is now biting.
At first I though it might be teething, but he never acted like this for his other two teeth. I just don’t know what to do any more. I feel and have felt like something else is going on, but I have no idea what. I think I am over the max for his zegeird, but he seems like he is in pain. I am reluctnat to give him mylanta. I used to use mylanta with his zegrid and when i tryed to take him off the meds he got constipated. Well, He is screaming his head off so I should go try to calm him. Thanks for letting me vent.November 25, 2006 at 11:15 am #18929Anonymous
Inactiveim sorry…Trace has been sick for 8 days now and he is doing the same things….
also what i have decided…since Trace hasnt slept well in a month, is….i am getting some zantac and going to use it a little before bed. some people say that an H2blocker along with a PPI work great!November 25, 2006 at 11:19 am #18930Anonymous
InactiveOh Shelby, I am so sorry that Justice is not doing well. I hear you about the mylanta…that acutally never helped Brianna. Something that did was Gaviscon (make sure to get just the regular strength kind). I was told to only give 1 ml up to 4X a day. Are you guys seeing a GI? If so maybe you could call there and see if they could see you as an urgent need (I know that might be a long shot, but worth a try). Have you tried teething tablets or tylonol to see if it helps at all (just in case he is teething). I know that Brianna was an angel with her first teeth. well now she has about 8 teeth sitting right below her gums that just won’t poke through (they have been there since the end of Sept!!! Our Ped showed them to us)…so needless to say, this teething time has been very different than the first. Keep us updated on how he is feeling.

Inactiveis he getting his top teeth? Aidan is and those are proving to MUCH more painful and harder to break through than the bottom, no idea why!!! Many hugs and I hope both Trace and Justice are feeling better soon!!!

InactiveI’m not sure where is he getting teeth if any. On Thanksgiving when he was crying I saw a knot where the lateral incisor should be. I don’t see it anymore though.
I have also thought about using Zantac at night. Are you going to try it for sure or still thinking about it? I have also thought about trying the 20 mg pkts of zegerid. It seems like the babies on the 20 mg pkts are doing better than the 40. I could be wrong about that though. I have a friend whose baby is on the 20 mg and she is weaning him and has just bought a new box right before the wean. I just talked to her and she said it has been a week to a week and a half and he seems to be doing fine. She said I could borrow some if I needed to. I’m not sure the difference between the 2 besides the mg and the 20 has more buffer, but the 40 lasts longer. How would I figure out how many mg of the 20 to use? Also just to let you know. My friends baby is 4 months old and is so far doing fine with the weaning. I think that is amazing.

Inactiveyour friends babies relflux may not be as severe. if the baby is being weaned at 4 months it sounds like its reflux was very very mild. our Gi said dont even attempt to wean Trace before a year old. and i have a feeling he will go well past a year old.
to figure out the dose for teh 20 mg packs use the calc. and choose the option for 20 mg packs, i believe the max for our boys is 33 mg.
i dont believe that the 20 mg packs work better than the 40 mg packs, especially since Dr Phillips recommended that i use the 40 mg packs, and he knows how severe Traces reflux is.
i am going to get the zantac, i am having out pharm. make it without the alcohol and the peppermint flavor, the guy said it will be ready on Tuesday.

Inactivehave you checked his ears?
November 25, 2006 at 1:58 pm #18953Anonymous
InactiveI haven’t checked his ears yet. He has been grabbing at them every now and then, but I thought it might be just teething. Does it sound like an ear infection? I think it is reflux in some way because his breath smells horrible.

InactiveJust a note on the Zantac…I was having a hard time with Brianna sleeping through the night. Well one day I just decided to try and give her some Zantac that I had left over from when we switched to the prevacid (I had read that combination had proven to be helpful). Not that I am suggesting that you do something without your DR approval but….when I told my GI he said that was no big deal…as a (matter of fact, since doing that we have taken my daughter from 30mg of prevacid down to about 10)….Well ever since then Brianna has slept much better at night…only the occasional night waking…Also, one of the GI docs Brianna saw (she has seen three total!!!) told me she always prescripted and H2 with the PPI ….she had you do one in the morning and one at night. Good luck

InactiveAs posted elsewhere I do PPI and Zantac. Works a treat. My GP said Zantac is a good addition also because as a Histamine blocker it can also have opositive impact on allergies…It has certainly worked for Alana- one without the other is not as good as both together.

Inactivei am sooo sorry justice isnt feeling well! i read one of the other posts about the ear infection, and i think that is worth getting checked out before adding another med… and i think i read it somewhere, that maybe the high dosage is too much for him, and making him feel worse?? i am pretty sure i read someone say that once…
but i hope things get sorted out soon! (and def get those ears checked, you never know.. )

InactiveWell, just to update everyone. I broke down and gave Justice some mylanta before his nap today and he actually slept for 2 hrs. On me of course, but he hasn’t been doing that recently. He was also in a good mood after his nap. We went out and when we came back he was pulling off when eating again. I think it is the reflux. Not sure if his throat is burnt from when i tryed to take him off before or his reflux is just flaring up because of teeth coming in. I am going to ask his ped about some zantac though. If their throat is burnt is there anything you can do to help it heal or even just feel better? Also, with doing the mylanta and him sleeping better that does sound like reflux right?
I am so confused with this reflux thing. I kind of wish I would have made my forum name reflux sucks. I have learned so much from being on these boards, but there is still so much guessing that goes into it and when your sleep deprived it is so much harder. Thank you all for letting me vent and helping me out. I swear I feel like I must have the most posts on this board. I just feel better having other opinions. Thanks to all of you.November 25, 2006 at 8:20 pm #18970Anonymous
InactiveThe sour breath makes me think that he is either refluxing some acid (and so maybe he does need Zantac along with Zegerid) or he’s sick. My kids often would get bad breath when they were sick. I would probably take him in for a check up….ears, throat, etc. You never know…

InactiveI agree with Christine – I would definitely get him checked out. When Kayla would get ear infections, she acted just like when her reflux was at it’s worst (not sleeping, pulling off the bottle). It couldn’t hurt to have it looked into
So sorry he is not feeling well – hope things get better soon!!
