cause alcohol is not good for babies!!! plus i imagine it would only burn their throats.
and my son gagged and screamed with the flavor when he was on zantac at a month old.

InactiveI would always mix it with a bit of Mylanta which cut both the taste and the burn, but I never knew you could get it alcohol free!!!

InactiveHey Shelby – I am so sorry things aren’t getting any better for Justice.
I was reading the other posts about giving zantac with zegerid and remembered something I read on marci-kids so I went back to check:“A special note—never use H-2 blockers along with PPI drugs.
This is because the H-2 blocker will prevent the PPI drug from working.
It is ok to give a PPI drug at breakfast and supper and then four hours
or more later at bedtime give an H-2 blocker. But this is not together.”Obivously people have had great success giving both, just make sure you are giving them 4 hours apart so it doesn’t counter act the Zegerid.

Good luck!!! (and I agree to have his ears checked as well)

InactiveIf PPI and H2 blockers act in different ways, why do they affect each other? Just wondering. I usually only wait 2 1/2 to three hours- ie the next feed.

InactiveI’m not sure the exact reasons. I had looked into giving Sarah Zantac when she was teething a few weeks ago and when I read that, it made me think twice. HOWEVER, after reading how many moms who do it and it works great…I’ve changed my opinion! Marci-kids might have more information about why they affect each other, I just copied/quoted that one paragraph.

InactiveThank you so much. I have called my ped and left a msg. I can’t take the not sleeping and being fussy anymore. I hope the Zantac will be the cure for that, but I am not getting my hopes up. So far nothing has worked. The Zantac is only 20 something dollars so I am going to go for it.
Again Natalie please let me know how it goes for Trace.

InactiveWell, my silent spitter can’t stop spitting up on me. Just thought I would share. Again today I just want to scream and cry. Justice can’t go to sleep and he’s grumpy because he can’t go to sleep. I am at a loss. I have no idea what I’m supposed to do to help him.
Thanks for letting me vent again.

InactiveMaybe try Carafate? It coats the esophagus and the stomach like Mylanta, but it also helps it to heal from the acid erosion. You can use it I think 4 times a day, but not closer than 2 hours to the PPI dose so it doesn’t prevent the PPI from being absorbed.

InactiveThank you. At the moment my ped wants me to do mylanta and not zantac. I told her nurse that mylanta hasn’t done anything for him. She said the ped had gone home and they will have to call me tomorrow. UGH!!! I have a feeling we are just going to be dealing with no sleep until he outgrows his reflux. WHY WHY WHY?! I thought for sure if we got him on zegerid and the correct dose he would sleep, but no can do. He took one nap today for about 40 min and tossed and turned the whole time. Of course, I got no sleep, but that is not unusual. Sorry to complain. I know there are much worse things out there. I’m just sick of being in a bad mood and not being able to spend time with my precious two yr old.

Inactiveshelby,
have you considered trying prevacid? prevacid is a stronger med than prilosec (zegerid) and many babies do better on it when they dont do so well on prilosec.
let me know!!November 28, 2006 at 7:12 am #19130Anonymous
InactiveRefresh my brain – have you had him in to be checked by the doctor – to me, the not sleeping and fussiness could indicate an ear infection. Just a thought
Hope things get better quick for you guys!!

InactiveNatalia, I was just wondering where you heard that prevacid is a stronger med than prilosec? I’ve never heard that anywhere. I’m surprised by that since the dosing for prevacid is higher than prilosec (i.e. they recommend giving more per kg).

InactiveI was also told by my GI that prilosec was a less effective version of prevacid (I asked about switching my DD)….Don’t ask me where he got that info, but I guess he is supposed to know this stuff…
