InactiveShoot, I just remembered, our ped told us that most AR formulas work by thickening when they hit the acid in the stomach. If you are on an antiacid, these won’t work as well, if at all.
Unless maybe I find a thickening agent to add myself, that does not operate this way.

Inactivethe AR formulas have rice in them which can cause constipation. we stayed away from thickening the bottles. i figured out it wasnt an allergy by switching him to the soy after the alumentim came up just as bad as regular formula did. he never had any rashes, mucus in the stool or blood in the spit up or stool that would suggest an allergy. i just feed him and let him throw up on me as long as he was comfortable and gaining weight it was ok. try the soy. its almost the same price as reg formula. you will know if the is a bad reaction

Keymasterlook at the list of signs to see if it’s intolerance-these seem to be poop/gas issues, mostly. so, if baby is having painful poops, painful gas, stools are not right consistancy- then it could be intolerance issues, too, and so that’s when you’d try nutrimigen/alimentum (need to give each change a good TWO WEEKS!) and THEN you’d try neocate/elecare…
if there is no poop/gas issues, then you’d leave formula alone and concentrate on meds. If there is no pain w/ spitting up, then you would not even need meds-meds address the PAIN of reflux, they do not stop it.

Inactivelrlt – My son is on Prevacid and we recently tried AR and it did make his spit up less frequent. We didn’t use it for long though as he did not like the taste (or he didn’t like something about it). Also I’ve noticed some mention that the thinner formulas make the spit up worse. We experienced that as well. While he was on Nutramagen and with Alimentum it got worse.

InactiveI agree with hellbent…definitely give it the two weeks before switching if you think you’re dealing with an allergy/intolerance. I am currently going through the same thing with my newest…he’s 2 months old and started having green mucousy stools with blood, so I’m on an elimination diet. I’ve just finally started seeing a change in his stools and it’s been almost two weeks…my point being, give it time. I know for my guy his gut needed time to heal.
If it’s mainly the reflux that’s bothering him I would explore your options with medicine, and a formula switch may not even be needed.
I hope that helps? -
