InactiveMy DD has this horrible rash for the past three days. It is getting worse. I am on an elimination diet due to finding blood in her stool at the GI appt. SHe is 6 weeks old and on zantac. The doc saw her rash and said it may be from the zantac. I don’t know how she has been on it for two weeks. I haven’t had anything but wheat stuff. Could it be heat rash? We both wake up hot and sweaty. Also, the day before the rash she had her HEP B shot, doc says that is not what caused this. It is worse today. Thanks.

InactiveI don’t know for sure but it looks like the eczema my kids used to get. They used to get it on their faces, neck, and chest. Two of my babies had very severe eczema outbreaks at 6-8 weeks of age. I was nursing and I was told to eliminate dairy and if that didn’t work I was to eliminate wheat as well. Evidently wheat allergies can cause eczema. With my two it turned out to be dairy only so I had to be dairy free until I was done nursing.
She’s adorable!

Keymasterif you are on the Dr sear’s elimination diet, you are all ready cutting most things (
) out of your diet- so you can either scour the ingredients of what you’re eating to see if there’s any hidden dairy or soy OR I would just go ahead & cut out the rice- sounds odd, but many have found that their babies even react to the rice…doesn’t leave you with much though
– check out the TED forum & heidi’s posts- ‘gathered info’ is in the title
actually you mention wheat so I’m thinking you’re not on the dr sear;s diet- so thats what I would do- do the dr dears diet and then after 2 weeks if no improvements (overall- blood in stool, rash, etc) then I’d cut out the rice, too for 2 weeks…
oops didnt answer you about the benedryl- I don’t know she’s awfully young and the dr said not to give it to her? I would listen to the dr I think on this one…

InactiveYeah, me too. I wouldn’t give benedryl to such a young baby without specific instructions from the doctor.

InactiveWell, this all started the day after I went on my dairy free diet. I have eaten major amounts of wheat and rice since then. Actually I had rice for lunch and a bunch at dinners the last three nights. I am wondering now which to cut first, the wheat or the rice? I have had more rice than wheat. 🙁 I am so sad.

Inactiveokay, after going back to what i ate the night before she woke up with a rash, i had potatoes twice that day. and everyday since this new diet. rice and wheat are not new for me. But I rarely eat potatoes. I have had them every day as well since the rash. I did not eat wheat or rice the day before the rash…could potatoes be the culprit? I have never heard of a potato allergy. I used vegetable oil when cooking them each time too, ?

Keymasterdon’t be sad, not just yet

it could be any number of things

as for potatoes- were they from a mix? any seasoning? sauce? hmmm…maybe there’s soy in the oil? usually soy ois don’t affect baby, but maybe yours is very sensitive?
blood inthe stool most likely is milk and/or soy proteins…and the rash, well you’ll have to experiment to find out about it- it may or may not be something in your diet- are you using ‘fee & clear’ type detergent (not dreft, but something like purex or, really any brand free of dyes & perfumes)? are you washing baby’s things seperate from your own? do you have a carpet she’s been on that’s cleaned w/ carpet cleaner? etc etc…what are you bathing her with?
I would just go ahead & do the Dr Sear’s diet for 2 weeks and see what happens- if you think it’s the rice then you can do the diet w/o rice, but that seems really hard, but also it’s *only* 2 weeks and to be honest that’s a very short time in the scheme of things
…easy for me to say, I know

I did the diet, but I kept the rice- well, it was a long time ago & there wasn’t all of the information about it here as there is now…plus my story was different…

InactiveI noticed early on that if I ate french fries, she was fussy, I assumed it was the grease, so I haven’t had any potato until I had to cut out dairy, which left me with rice, wheat and potato products. I have had french fries or red potatoes everyday since the rash. I have had wheat from the begining. I don’t know. My cousin had a severe potato allergy as a child. I just called my aunt because her son has severe allergies. She said it was the starch. It caused him head to toe exzema.
