InactiveOh, my! That is a dilemna.
Maybe share the marci-kids research with his sister. My pharmacist had no idea either.

InactiveMy daughter went to a top-tier university hospital for her GI appts, and she was on 30 MGs prevacid at that age. However I would like to add, even that dose did not help her during teething. The teething phase just had to be endured, as she got to the point that even prevacid, tylenol or motrin did nothing for her. She slept terrible, threw up randomly, and was so cranky. Benadryl did help her sleep though.

InactiveI totally understand how you feel. I have a silent refluxer who’s a joy but at the same time a lot of work. I work 30 hrs/week and he’s at daycare who’s wonderful. I leave the house at 6am and get home around 3:30. My husband isn’t home till 7pm so I spend most of my time with my little one. That includes baths, bottles, feedings, and playing. It’s wonderful for my son and I but I miss my husband and wish he could be there. I think I get frustrated because I am the primary care giver for my child and then when my husband gets home, everything is done. He doesn’t have to do much around the house as far as upkeep goes and I sometimes feel like he takes me for granted.
The truth is that he’s out of the house for 12-13hrs a day and there’s no way possible for him to spend any more time with me or our son. It’s just not humanly possible. Since I’m home in the afternoons and capable, it naturally falls on my shoulders. I am VERY happy that I get this time alone to spend with my boy.
I just wish there were more hours in the day. My husband and have been arguing more since we had the baby and I think it’s a combination of the reflux roller coaster, role changes, and sleep deprivation. We’ve lost US as a couple and now we’re mommy/daddy machines. Life is turning into a full time job/business and it’s got to change. We’re trying to figure out how we can ge US back because we miss each other and sometimes that comes across as frustration and arguments. It’s not about who takes care of the baby more or does the wash or junk like that. It’s about planning for time for US just like we plan to do the essentials around the home. WE’RE just as important.
My suggestion is to leave love notes, send love e-mails, and lots and lots of hugs. Maybe that can help us all. Much luck.

InactiveOur pharmacist also told us that Hailey was on an adult dose. They didn’t know that an adult dose was LESS than a pediatric dose!! We felt awful until we found that out.

InactiveJanet, thanks for the advice on the relationship

Lori, I know what you mean about the adult dose being less than the pediatric.
Everyone, well, I’ve increased Ariella’s dose. What I do now is in the am, I give her the whole tablet (15 mg) and in the pm I split it in two and give her half. It’s made a great difference (knock on wood!) as far as the spitting up goes. She still spits up but not nearly as much as she was.
Also, the pharmacist (I swear, by accident) gave us the 30 mg tablets and not the 15 mgs the month before so I still have extra for when I run out of the 15 mgs tablets. You should’ve seen me when I saw her make the mistake. I pretended i didn’t notice but I took it and I ran

InactiveI’m glad to hear she’s feeling better.
And that’s great that you have some extra Prevacid in case you need it.
I swear that stuff is like little pink gold to us reflux moms. March 22, 2007 at 10:50 pm #28261Anonymous
InactiveChristine, it was hilarious. DH was waiting in the car so I rushed into the car and I was telling him “step on it!!” he goes “what happened?” and i tell him “she made a mistake and we need to be as far away as possible before she realizes” I felt as if I robbed a bank

Wait until the stuff is availabe OTC. We’ll be stuffing our closets full of it. I used to dream about buying cases of Prevacid from Sam’s Club so I’d never run out.

InactiveI would try thickening her feeds that seemed to be the only thing that helped my son with his spitting up/throwing up after eating. We adjusted his medicine too but the 2 combined really made a difference.

InactiveOne more thing–how areher bowel movements? If she is constipated she will be cranky and it will also cause her to spit up/throw up after eating.

InactiveAidensmommy, Ariella’s bms vary from day to day. She may go twice in one day or doesn’t go the whole day. She’s crankier when she doesn’t go by her ped (which irritates me the most) says “it’s not constipation unless she doesn’t go for three days”. I feel like telling him “you try not to go every day and I’ll see if you’re happy”.

InactiveJust seeing this now… hilarious Marianna! I did the same thing when I finally “tricked” a doc into prescribing 30mg prevacid. I held my breath the whole time he wrote out the script, then I took it and Hailey and I were out of there before he could probably blink.
Christine, is prevacid going OTC? Gosh, I hope not!!! Then we’ll have to pay for it out of pocket each month! YIKES!!!

InactiveMy son has the same issue. If the consistancy of the BM is hard or they are really struggling to get it out it is constipation. On the days she seems to be having trouble I would try to help her along. It wont hurt her at all just make her more comfortable.
