InactiveGeez, if it’s not one thing, it’s another. Will this ever end???? Ariella’s spitting up more and more often. I’m assuming it’s linked to her teething. She doesn’t nap, she’s cranky 24/7, she wants to nurse and then she spits up then she wants to nurse again and it’s a vicious cycle that doesn’t seem to end. I don’t know what to do. She’s so cranky that she’s not happy no matter what you do. I need to know that it ends eventually…Whenever that eventually is

Inactive15 mgs of Prevacid may not be enough for her. A higher dose may help her feel better, though it probably won’t reduce the spitting, it may help her sleep better, and reduce her irrititability.
Myles was a huge spitter (puker really, since he usually puked up entire feedings), and I learned to just accept it (though some days it was much harder to accept than other days) because there’s just nothing that you can do about it; except wait for them to outgrow it. He finally did outgrow it at 9 months.

InactiveHang in there. Teething and viruses have made reflux tough around here, and turned out silent refluxer into a major puker at times. It’s not fun. We’ve found that we’ve had to increase her dosage when the teething’s really bad, and benadryl has helped sometimes too.
Hope it passes soon.

InactiveThanks, Christine and Lori. This is putting such a strain on my relationship with my husband. We both work and have demanding jobs, we’re both exhausted almost all the time and when we come home, we have our sweet little girl who is so adorable but can drain us of energy…We don’t spend much time together anymore (husband and I) but when we are together, we seem to argue about stupid things that I never paid attention to before…He’s great and tries to help (when he doesn’t have to go away on weekends or have dinners with clients or visit a show for his work)
but I feel so unhappy at times, not with him, just with the whole situation….Boy, having a reflux baby is tough! Sorry for making you listen to my yet another complaint. I hope I’m not alone in this b/c I feel like a terrible parent as it is. Ugh, reflux, GO AWAY!March 6, 2007 at 9:43 pm #26735Anonymous
InactiveHang in there Marianna. I COMPLETELY understand your feelings of frustration. I have recently become a single mother…let me rephrase that…my husband coaches HS baseball and it’s season now so from the time I get home from work until I put Sarah to bed…it’s ALL ME! WOW is it exhausting. I commend all single mothers out there! I didn’t realize how helpful DH actually was until I’ve had a week without him.
That being said…reflux babies are very trying and exhausting and frustrating and yet so wonderful because I think we appreciate those GOOD days ten fold. I agree with Christine that it might be time for a higher dose…especially if she’s teething. That was the time when we had to increase Sarah’s dose slightly and it did wonders.I hope things start to get a little easier. Don’t ever apologize for complaining…that’s what we’re here for!

InactiveHi Marianna…I don’t have anything much to add other than empathy. I can certainly relate to working FT for both parents, the very small window of time to fit so much baby stuff in and the bickering that accompanies two tired and worn out parents. I just keep telling myself that this stuff lasts for only a short period of time and we have the foundation as a family to come out the other side of it

InactiveAll I know to say is I’m right there with you. It seems like it’s always one thing after another. Justice will start sleeping better and then the next thing you know, BAM back to bad again. I have a previous refluxer and still have no idea when this will end. My first was sleeping 12 hours straight by now.

InactiveHey! I totally empathize with you. I know what it feels like, and feel free to vent whenever you need to. It always helps me to dump all my ugly feelings on here. It’s kind of liberating, you know? And who better to share them with than women who totally understand and who will not judge you at all. Hang in there.
Also, I agree that she might need a higher dose. Seems like most babies on here do really well at 30 mgs. of the Prevacid.
And, it does it. I wonder when it will myself, but I had a refluxer already, and she did get so much better… by 9 months!

InactiveHello, ladies. Thank you for your comments. I guess I will up her dosage and see how she does. The problem is her GI dr is not willing to increase her dosage. How do I do that? If it were safe, why would they refuse to increase the dosage?

InactiveIt seems that most doctors are not aware of the current research at http://www.marci-kids.com that shows babies metabloize these meds 3-4 times faster than adults, and that’s why they need higher doses given three times per day instead of just once. I was able to convince Myles’ doctor by printing and faxing the marci-kids info to her. Maybe you can try that.

Inactiveyes i agree with CHristine. they are not up to date with current research. if you go through the boards, pretty much all of our babies became pain free when on the correct dose and correct formula.
sad thing is,. so many doctors are too arrogant to listen and take marci kids into considertion, that is when its time to find a new doc

InactiveAdriana is on 15mg also and I wanted to up hers by myself but there is no way of doing so without the doctor’s approval because I will run out of meds before the insurance will pay for more. It sucks.
Good Luck with your doc.

you can…a few moms told the doc “the baby accidentaly got more….like someone else gave it to her…it was accident…and the baby is doing SO Much better”…you just gotta bs it….
and then the doc has no choice but to increase the dose since baby is doing better

InactiveOk, I seriously did not need this but my husband talked to his sister (who’s a pharmacist and a paranoid one at that) she told him to ABSOLUTELY not to increase Ariella’s dose b/c it’s already a dose for an adult. Now he says “if the dr doesn’t want to increase and my sister says not to, why would we?” Umm, b/c she needs it maybe?? Duh! Now I feel like I have to sneak behind my husband’s back to give her a higher dose b/c now he’s not sure if we should go against his sister’s and the dr’s advice.
