Thais – I totally agree with you, so I am so afraid to post something positive. I hope you can enjoy the weekend with DH and get a break from the feeding, and I hope Matthew gets better soon. I saw your signature saying that Matthew is only on prevacid 15mg now, why did the md decrease his med? I saw your another post and saying “Matthew throws up his solids all of the time. He has learned how to do it. He starts gagging adn unless you get his attention immediately, he will continue until he throws up. BUT the ped said that if he does that, we give him the whole feeding again… and i think he is learning because he is throwing up less these days…” Brian does the same thing very often too, but I do not feed him after he throws up, because I am afraid he will throw up again, why did the ped say you can give him the whole feeding again? What makes Matthew throw up less these days? Sorry for all the question.

Sharon — don´t worry about the questions!

At this point, we are pretty sure that it is behavioural for Matthew. At one point we thought it was the tube, but he does it even without the tube… so no correlation. He probably does it because he can, and to get my attention. So, the ped said, if he does it, don´t really pay attention and start again… he will learn that if he throws up, you will just refeed it to him, and he will stop. I do think he has learned his lesson – however today he has been throwing up a ton and not keeping anything down and FINALLY A COLD CAME THROUGH… ped said that is prob what has been going on for the last couple of days.

Like you, only posting on boo-hoo from now on though!

Sharon — sorry — Matthew´s reflux is pretty much under control. With babies who don´t want to eat it is tricky to know when it is under control, but for us it was easy because of the tube… he would not eat anything but we would do all feedings through teh tube abd had the happiest baby in the world.. so nothing was bothering him anymore.

We are doing the prevacid dose still because he throws up so many times that the doctor wants him to have some type of buffer still for the acid though.

Thais – Thank you so much for the reply. I really want to decrease Brian’s med too, but everytime when I decreased a small amout, his eating got sooooo bad. I do not re-feed Brian after he throws up, also because it takes one hour for the feeding and cleaning up, if I feed him again, it will take another hour, I do not know if I have the patient to do it, I just try to prevent him from vomit, it is so frustrated. Please keep up posted on the psy appointment.

Thais, how is Matthew doing these days? Is he over the cold & eating better now? I jinx myself all the time too. Soon after I share a good day with people, Johnny starts to refuse to eat. I guess from now on I just keep my mouth shut on the good days. Johnny now gags & tries to throw up all the solid food, even his favorite—apple sauce. He is basically relying solely on fomula (18oz/day) to survive. He began to take the bottle again yesterday and gobbled down a bottle of 5oz before bed, but for some reason (wish I knew what they are!) he rejected the bottle AGAIN today! You are absolutely right—What a ROLLER-COASTER reflux is!!! Our appointment with Walter Reed is scheduled on early April, a month from now! Don’t know how I am going to survive before then.:-( Sometimes I really wish Johnny were on tube so I don’t have to be so stressed all the time!

Matthew is again on strike… thank god for the tube! Poor little guy has a bad cold and he will not even take water (which he loves) and throws up a bunch of the feedings through the tube too. We hope that once he is feeling better, he is back to eating, but we know better than that i think.

My appointment is tomorrow… so i will def post about it! Hopefully this person is helpful somehow!

So, i went to see the psychologist (pretty old and experienced woman). I was there by myself for an hour or so, and she was just asking questions about Matthew and us etc etc. A bit of a pain to go through it all… she said that she wants to see Matthew on the 21st — we ar to bring him into the hospital and we are going to feed him in front of her. She did not want to say anything yet until she sees him.

She was amazed at the fact that he will drink from the bottle though but as soon as you switch it, he will stop drinking and then will drink again if you put the water in front of him. Also, she asked if there was any possibility that i was really nervous when i fed him and that made him nervous… and i told her that i don´t feed him much anymore and that he behaved the same way whether i was there or not… she was also a bit amazed at that (think she was expecting him to be much better with others).

Anyway, she also gave me some questionaires, but she said they are for older kids, so a lot of the questions i will not be able to fill out. Lori, they sound a bit like yours… but only 5 pages though…

I will let you guys know as soon as i see her next week!!!
