InactiveThe Zantac is working for Lucy but she hates the taste. We added grape and that didn’t help.
Didn’t someone mention that babies like a certain flavor better than others?
Any other suggestions?

Inactivezantac tastes horrendous! the smell almost made me vomit. my son would scream when i gave it to him.that is why i would definitely switch to either axid or pepcid. plus zantac has alcohol in it.

InactiveYou can try to get the zantac efferdose. They have a website. It’s a little dissolvable pill like a solutab that tastes like citrus. It was designed for kids to get around that nasty taste.
Alternately, you can try pepcid. It’s also an H2 blocker, but apparently tastes really yummy!
I don’t know about insurance issues though in either case.

InactiveMy son is on pepcid.
It’s a lot more expensive than the zantac. I would love to make the zantac work.
Laura, mylanta huh? that’s an idea.

InactivePepcid did taste better, but it was WAY more expensive and it was compounded, so it lost effectiveness.

Inactiveisnt zantac made into a compound for babies?

InactiveI’m sure this isn’t condoned by anyone, but we’re actually trying over the counter Zantac for Lucy.
She’s taking it much better, but we’ll see how she does on it.
Has anyone tried this at all?

InactiveIt comes in a liquid? Why does it taste better than the other Zantac?
If Prevacid had been available OTC I would have bought cases of it and not bothered fighting for weeks with his doctor to get him on a high enough dose.
One day all these meds will be OTC and our poor reflux babies will be treated so much better.

InactiveThanks Christine. Just hearing you say that makes me feel better.
I don’t want to do OTC, but I kinda don’t have a choice. It’s either that or have her go without. Talk about these doctors-arg. Oh, and I won’t even get into that story!! I’ll just stop right there

But, the Zantac OTC is in pill form. We just disolve the cut pill into a little liquid and syringe it to her. Maybe it’s because there’s no alcohol? It just doesn’t smell as nasty as the pharmacy zantac.

InactiveYeah, the liquid form is made with alcohol. No wonder it tastes so nasty. When Eliana was on it, it was a nightmare trying to get her to take it.

I hope the OTC pills work for her.
Her doc won’t prescribe a PPI?

InactiveHer ped doc didn’t even want Lucy on the Zantac. And now she won’t refill it cuz we have to go to the gi doc to make sure there’s nothing “seriously wrong”. Henry’s got worse reflux than Lucy and nothing’s wrong with him. There’s nothing wrong with her, she’s just got some reflux, that’s all.
So, I call the gi doc – see, now I’m going on a rampage – and of course couldn’t get an appointment until the end of Nov. That doc can’t do anything without meeting Lucy, so that’s no help. And the ped still won’t refill the zantac. I think she’s thinking she doesn’t need it. She wanted me to wait until Lucy was at least 2-3 mths to put her on it.
Ok, I’m finished. It’s just really frustrating. I just don’t like to see her in pain.

I’d be spitting nails if I were you.Good luck with the OTC Zantac. I pray it helps until you get to the GI. Hopefully he will take her condition more seriously.
How’s Henry doing?

Inactivegood thanks for asking. He goes to allergy testing next tuesday. I sure hope something shows up. otherwise, I’m baffled.
The allergist actually upped his prevacid and that’s helped a lot. Maybe I’ll ask her about Lucy.
