I am the mother of 3 month old Hayden Rose. She is breastfed 90% of the time and fed Gentlese the other 10%, when I don’t have any pumped.
My 2 year old had simular problems when he was an infant. He was controlled with Nexium (i think), Dr. Browns bottles and Gentlese. (not breastfed)H.R. doesn’t spit up and doesn’t mind being on her back, usually. She could be sound asleep in the swing or being held and all of a sudden just start wailing in pain, and getting stiff. These outburst can last anywhere from 5-20 minutes at a time. After trying Axid (1 ml 3xday) for 3 weeks and rice in the bottle and Kayro Syrup for the constipation, I thought we had found a solution. I finally had to go back because the painful cries were back. I haven’t found a pattern yet. We are now on 15 mg previcid solutabs once a day. I am gald to read not to feed for 30-60 because with her first dose I didn’t do that.Sometimes I can quite her by feeding her, which sometimes seems like I feed her every hour or two because she will fall asleep while eating. I did read where some moms say it soothes their throat.THe one thing that has become my lifesaver is this sling I got from lucky-baby.com I guess she just likes that close womb like feel, but it usually calms her pretty well and holds her close. (and gives you 2 free hands to do things like type on this message board) if anyone has any other advice to a newbie please let me know. The board is so useful but also very overwelming. One post has 20 links which have more links. Thanks for listening to me babble.AngelaSo my daughter is getting better medically…with the Zegerid, her reflux has improved dramatically in the last two weeks- down to basically rare episodes.
I ended up weaning her because I was coming back to work and being up all night + work + breastfeeding was too much to even consider. We landed on soy because anything milk based (even Nestle) through her into fits. She’s now 12 weeks and over 12 lbs.Our sleep problems are strange (but don’t seem to be unusual here). She has always had night issues due to poop avoidance and discomfort which basically cause her to wake around 2 a.m. (it keeps getting earlier- it used to be between 3-4). Her doctor gave us Levison for this and we use Miralax in the morning to make sure she’s pooped every day. The Levison has helped with night gas, which she seems to pass fairly easily now (could also be due to age), but it doesn’t make her sleep. She falls asleep around 7:30, and sleeps until 2 or so (I know this is a good stretch for an infant) but then wakes every hour. It doesn’t seem to matter if we feed her or not- she doesn’t eat much, maybe 2 oz. if offered, but wakes up an hour later regardless. If we go to her and put in the pacifier or pick her up, she falls asleep for another hour. This is making me feel the waking is more behavioral or discomfort than hunger, but I was wondering if you’d agree. Everything I read says don’t try sleep training until they are healthy…well, she still grunts and moves around and I think it is still discomfort in her digestive tract so I don’t know if she qualifies as healthy…we are dying, though. It’s just so exhausting. Is it too early to try sleep training? I talked to her GI’s nurse and there is nothing else we can do medically. She is sleeping on a wedge on her back.Has anyone else with this problem been successful with sleep training?Topic: Is this Reflux?
Hi everyone, another newbie here!
I was just wondering if I could get some feedback about my 8 week old DD here – a friend with a refluxy baby suggested that DD could have reflux.
DD is a very slow and fussy feeder (breastfed) who seems to want to feed all the time – sucking fists, anything she can get her mouth at! Her feeds take at least an hour, and for most of them, after a certain amount of time she will start to squirm, pull off and cry (occasionally scream) and arch her back sometimes, but will obviously be still wanting to feed. This happens mostly late in the afternoon and evenings but sometimes in the mornings too. I burp her often during her feeds but I think she still gets quite gassy as I can feel and hear her tummy rumble often. I’m not sure if being gassy really bothers her though as she only cries during feeds. Sometimes after a burp she will cry when she sees my breast but then if I take her off and cuddle her, she will be rooting around for my nipple. She gets the hiccups during nearly every feed. Her poos are mustardy and not foamy, I eat very little dairy as it makes my tummy play up if I have too much. She has dirty nappies at most feeds.
For a while I thought it could be OAL so I would express a little at the start of a feed. This stopped her gulping quite so much but hasn’t helped beyond that. I’ve tried various wind remedies but they haven’t had much effect, nor do different feeding positions. I’ve tried giving a dummy to her but she’s not that keen on it, if she does take it she soon spits it out and wants to feed again.
She’s a great sleeper at night, anywhere from 10-11 pm through to 6 – 7am. During the day she she doesn’t settle quite as well and tends to wake after an hour, and won’t really settle after 5pm until she goes down for the night.
Generally I think she’s a happy baby, it’s just these dramas with feeding and constantly wanting to feed! I just wasn’t sure if it could be reflux as she’s putting on plenty of weight and I don’t think she’s very vomity, she spits up maybe a teaspoon worth at some feeds but otherwise it’s just possetting. She also tends to settle down a little after a bowel movement.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Vyctryx 2008-04-08 00:42:34 Topic: Zantac Poop Problems
I just joined this forum to see if I could get some input on our problem. My 7 week old started Zantac at about 3.5 weeks of age. It somewhat helped alleviate the crying, back-arching and spit up post breast feeding. I’m also off dairy now because we found that supplementing with regular cow’s milk formula and days when I’d eat a lot of dairy caused major spit up.
But now our problem seems to be that he has intense trouble with pooping. He grunts, cries, wakes up at night and generally has a hard time. He will go for a day or so without pooping and then finally when he does it’s very watery. I think it might burn too…more like diarhea. I’ve done rectal stimulation and suppositories – which work…but I just don’t think this is normal.Any thoughts on whether this could be caused by the Zantac? Does anyone else have this problem?
