InactiveYes she started Prevacid 6 days ago. 15 mg solutabs. She takes it really well from a medicine dropper. We split it in half and give every 12 hours. We were referred to a GI Specialist 6 days ago also. Dr. Durant with Kaiser. He is very supportive and collaborative as he helped with our son and knows we have been through this before.
I also started TED yesterday:

Breakfast: potatoes, evoo, salt, pepper
lunch: rice pasta, and zucchini, squash, evoo, salt, pepper
Dinner: roast turkey, white rice
Snacks: pears
Drinks: water
Day 2
Breakfast: potatoes, evoo, salt, pepper
Lunch: turkey breast breaded with rice flour, salt ,pepper, baked
Dinner: shredded turkey breast with white rice, gravy made from roast turkey juices, and rice flour to thicken, salt pepper
Snacks: fried sweet potato chips with salt and cinnamon, pears
Day 3
Breakfast: same
Lunch: turkey with rice pasta and zucchini
Dinner: turkey shredded in turkey broth, rice
Snacks: rice pudding with cinnamon and rice milk, pears
Day 4
Breakfast: same
Lunch: steamed jasmine rice ( on the road)
Dinner: turkey nuggets deep fried
Snacks: pears, fried potato chips homemade
Day 5
Breakfast: same
Lunch: zucchini, sweet potato and rice pasta
Dinner: roast turkey with gravy, potatoes
Snacks: rice pudding with roast puréed pears
Day 6

Dinner: zucchini planks, breaded deep fried turkey breast
Snacks: sweet potato chips
At day 3: So far no improvements with the silent reflux but my daughter missed two doses when staying with my mom. She also came down with a cold so it’s bad timing to measure improvement. Her main issues are with feeding and painful feedings. She doesn’t take more than 2 ounces and also cries after feedings. Otherwise she is a good sleeper and has a good temperament. She is 7 weeks old and weights 9 pounds but gestational age corrected she is 1 week.
At day 7: some feedings seem better but some are still a struggle to get her to take in 2 or 3 ounces. She does seem to be crying less.

Keymasterseems like you’re off to a great start! give the meds a good two weeks & give the TED a good 2 weeks!
give solutabs on an empty stomach, followed by a ‘meal’ 30 minutes later
how do you know her ounce intake (you’re breastfeeding)? just curious
could you have Overactive Letdown? also known as Over Supply? Could it be feeding issue is from getting too much breast milk too fast?
if you can find store brand mylanta cherry supreme, then give that before feeding, to coat/soothe throat. this might help…
keep going, mama!!

InactiveThanks for the encouragement . She had her 2 month checkup and she is in 0 percentile so I’m a little freaked out. I wish she would get better right away! I’m sorry for the confusion, she is getting only breast milk via bottle as I have to pump. She was in the NICU and never took to breastfeeding . I will keep you posted.

KeymasterHave you consulted an Int’l board certified lactation consultant? maybe she could help you get baby to latch now that she’s bigger/mpre mature?
she might also be able to help you with your diet to see how you can get your milk to be fattier – or if you’re pumping/giving enough ‘hind’ milk –
look around http://www.kellymom.com
here’s a start: http://kellymom.com/health/growth/weight-gain_increase/
http://kellymom.com/nutrition/milk/change-milkfat/
In the meantime, drink a LOT of water and eat a LOT of evoo! DROWN everything in it- you need those ‘good fats’
when it’s time to add something into your diet, start w/ avocado…
hth (hope this helps)
you can do this

InactiveEczema makes me think gluten allergy.
August 9, 2013 at 9:52 am #72545hellbennt
Keymastermaybe not ‘gluten’, but wheat…(or not)
…You’ll get to specifics as you introduce new foods
August 9, 2013 at 11:56 am #72547Anonymous
InactiveCould be either. My son had a problem with soy so I’m thinking it could be soy, if not I think wheat since my diet was pretty non allergenic before there aren’t many main offenders left to cause allergy. I hope this works. I could care less about what I eat or don’t eat, I just want her to be able to eat peacefully.
Also, we did see lactation consultants but with her reflux she wasn’t stimulating enough milk so I had to breast feed, bottle feed, then pump. It became too exhausting and impossible once my husband went back to work as I have a 3 year old (crazy kid) at home too! There are still many days when I ask ‘why God?’

InactiveHave you checked her for lip & tongue ties?
Also Candice takes to nursing better if she’s being worn in a wrap or ringsling. It might help to try, if you haven’t yet.
Just asking. kmomof62013-08-09 18:01:42

InactiveThanks for the suggestions, I will try it out!
Today was the first day in awhile that my daughter seemed to show some improvement. She ate 5 ounces in one feeding and so far only had one feeding where she seemed to be in pain. Keep your fingers crossed for me, maybe we are making a turn for the better.
The diet is getting to me. I’m dizzy, having heart palpitations and I’m really tired. I’ve started taking iron pills and stool softener. If i don’t feel better I may add in the avocado sooner.

Keymastereat more of what you can eat! Make some oven baked French fries – potatoes
Drink a lot of water, add some pear nectar
Eat more free range (organic ) ground turkey & ground lamb…
You can do this! Check your iron pills to make sure they don’t gave any dairy or soy…same for the colaise…

InactiveI will find some pear nectar. I’m doing good with my water, about 120 oz a day. My whole diet is organic and free range 🙂
I’m checking my pills now!
Thanks for your help.

InactiveOk iron pills are fine but the stool softener says ‘caramel’. Also she is on vitamins since I’m breastfeeding and it says ‘Caramel color’. What should I do?

InactiveToday is day 7 on TED and day 11 on Prevacid. Some slight improvement with some feedings but not all. A few feedings she took in 5 ounces compared to 1.5 or 2. Isn’t screaming during feedings but is squirming still. She still has cradle cap that comes and goes on her ears, eyebrows, and between her eyes.

Keymasterkeep up the amazing work!
day 7 on TED; you’re 1/2 way there!
and day 11 on prevacid!
yay!
did you check prevacid dose w/ marci-kids dosing?
Pediatric Dosing for Lansoprazole (Prevacid®)
Dosing dependent on age & weight
Age Dose per day (mg/kg/dose)
< 3 months 1.5 to 1.75 mg/kg three times per day
3-6 months 1.25 to 1.5 mg/kg three times per day
so how much does she weigh?
I’m thinking there’s room to increase the dose if necessary?
as for the caramel coloring…I don’t know…? stop them ‘just’ for a week, until you’re done w/ the basic TED?
