My baby just turned 4 1/2 months and I am struggling to understand what is going on with his feeding. When he turned about 2 months old, he started to get picky with his eating, but none the less would eat his whole bottle each time (he is getting 90% breastmilk in bottles). The last month he started to get really fussy whereas I had to carry him around while feeding in order for him to eat at all. Now the last week he stared to cry at every meal time. He will eat about 3 ounces, burp but once I try to get the bottle back into his mouth he turns his head, arches his back and starts to scream. Last night was the first night that he had these blood currdeling screams to the point that I was hysterically crying seeing him in pain. The doctor just prescribed Prevacid which he has been on for 2 days now and I am hoping it begins to work. It took forever to get a diagnosis because he does not spit up AT ALL or cry after a bottle, just during. I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced their baby being a good eater and slowly getting worse and worse because of acid reflux. How do I know if it is truly the silent reflux?Hi i was wandering if someone could help me with questions.
i am a new mum of a 6 week old and living with interfering extended family. i wanted to establish brest feeding but due to family pressures.. constant nit picking verbal and even threatening behav from my mother in law i was never supported in breast feeding my child.
i tried to establish excluive brest feeding but found that my baby didnt seem to b getting satoisfied on my milk since i had sat with him for 4 hours trying to feed but he kept happy for about 10 mins theen started crying again. i thought maybe this was abnormal. i spoke to my midwife in the who advised me to breast feed then top up with formula milk.
my midwife never told me my babys constant feeing was normal but suggested i swap from sma gold to aptamil since that would be closer to my breast milk.
at 4 weeks we started giving our baby aptamil, hopwever aptamil gave my baby veyr very very watery pooh and also it seemed he found hard to digest the new milk because he kept bringing up loadsa milk. we trieed him on aptamil for about a week… i was soo concerned i called nhs direct,- who told me that if he wasnt settled between feeds then maybe think about whether aptamil suits him. i spoke to a midwife who told me that i should stick it out for a while cos it takes time for baby to get used to new milk. i then called aptamil myself. they told me that the formulation of their milk was diff to normal milks beuacse it had firnedly bacteria which wa causing the runny pooh and vomitting.
in the end i felt aptamil was causing my baby more discomfort than was worth it so i switched back to sma.
b4 i gave baby aptamil baby seemed settled, i was ablemto breast feed and give him sma to top up. however during aptamil and afte aptamil i found baby wouldnt latch on propoerly.. he would suck for about 1o mins at the breast then cry and scream due to frusttartion.
even now i am very upset because it woulkd seem that due to lack of family support for various reasons my baby began to get more and more bottle fed than i wanted.as a consequence now he wont readily take from my breast.
anyways.. thats not the main issue that i have. at the moment my baby is six weeks old and wanting a feed almost constantly. evry half hour to an hour he wants a feed. i have npoticed that he arches his back alot after a feed and chews his fingers. he also brought up a;lot of mik after burping. he generally doesnt seem a happy baby when he seems to b hungry which now appears to b most of the time. although he will smile now and again and does want to play etc.
duing the day he appears to have difficulty sleeping.. he will nod off for 5-10 mins and then wqakeup crying for a feed. in one feeding he can easily have about 4-5 ounces which is normal. but qafter the big feed he will cry maybe 10 mins later for more milk.. sometimes taking another 4 ounces or maybe jsut 1-2 ounces.
i’m not sure what to do,my midwife seems hopeless as is my gp. currently my breast feeding seems minute and bottle feeding provides most of my baby nutrition.
shouold iconsider sma for hungrieer babies? i am soo scared to try other milok because of the headache i got from aptamil before. also i dont know if baby is ahving a growth spurt hence wanting mpore milk..
currently his feeidng is erratic.. his feeding times are all over the place because i found i am doing an awful lot of cluster feeding.
he will demand more milk and often burp up lots of milk.
does anyonee have any suggestions.. so sorry for a looong post!!
in a nutshell after feedings he constantly seems uncomfortable.. arching his back etc.. even his facial expression he seems lke he has alot of wind and generally not happy. soon after feedings he cried.. sometimes sticks his tongue out rooting.. or chewing hsi hands.. i am not sure if he is just haing a growth spurt hence more milk… but i am concerned that he looks uncomfortable after feeding.. could he have reflux of some sort? could the aptamil have messed his system up? nany idea what coulkd be done for him??
p.shis usual feed was max 4 ounces.. every 3 hours. now he has 5 ounces plus cluster feeding of 1-4 ounces within a 3 hour slot.

Hello all…
My name is Shawna and I am the mommy of 2 beautiful little ones. Sierra age 3 and Tony age 11 months. I am in need of advice and hopefully someone here can help. When my son Tony was born we were breastfeeding. He cried out in pain constantly, horrible gas pains, projectile vomiting, up to 20 soiled dipes a day, and they were mucusy. ( sorry tmi) I was constantly at the pedi’s office demanding answers or at least advice. They were totally ignored, claiming he was just a normal BF baby. Due to other circumstances, Tony refused to latch for a few days and when he was ready to I dried up. So we tried, Cow based formula and his symptoms got worse instantly. Our pedi at the time, changed him to Soy based formula and still no change. I finally got in to see another pedi in the practice and he tested TJ’s bm and found acute blood. He said it was MSPI and put us on Alimentum in addition to GERD. We have had lower and upper GI test done. He has done awesome on the Alimentum. I changed pedi’s and am at a new office with dr’s that I love. now at 10 months old. Tony started to refuse the Alimentum. He would drink his juice and water out of the sippy fine but refused to drink the formula. After a week of him not drinking any formula our new pedi told us to switch to Whole milk, saying that Tony should have outgrown his allergy to milk. So that weekend we did. He loved it and drank it instantly. He only drank 6 oz of Whole Milk. but he started projectile vomiting again and diarreah the rest of the weekend. After that weekend Tony started drinking his formula again.. lmbo. Well this freaked me out so I made an appt with are allergist ( advice of pedi) to find out for sure. Tony’s appt was yesterday and they did the back prick test and the scratch test for milk, soy and rice. All of which came back negative and the allergist said Tony wasn’t allergic he was lactose intolerant. I just don’t understand. The allergist told me to switch Tony to Soy milk and try whole milk again in 6 months. I am not comfortable with doing this. I do not want my son to suffer again. But I cant afford to keep him the Alimentum passed 1 year. So any advice or help is welcome. PLEASE HELP.
Is MSPI, MIlk Allergy the same?
Ok, my dd is 7 month old, and she’s med free since she was 5 month old.
Since I starting solid, no rice, no apple no banana, she become so constipated.
In fact since she try to strain so hard every feeding, sometimes she’s threw up because of it.
And of course her intake of breastmilk/formula reduce significantly since she’s busy concentrate on her bowel.
And now since the constipated issue, she’s prone to puking.
I try to give her water or juice, she doesn’t want it! at all, even when after eating solid, she’s doesn’t want anything to do with water or juice.
So I know, she doesn’t get enough liquid.
I try sippy cup, bottle, straw, or spoon feeding the water and juice, nada, she doesn’t want it!
I feel like I want to pull my hair!
Try the probiotic , still constipated. She poop maybe 5 times a day, a bit by a bit, like one spot of pooping everytime (with strain so hard each time).
I feel I have to blame her, since she’s the one that make her miserable ( I think), if she want to take some more liquid, I think she will not have this problem.
With all the constipation, she starting gagging too!
Before this, she never puking, just spit up a bit, but now, feels like I open the tunnel, she’s puking almost everyday!Any help please?

in her mouth and i know its something because it is a “bitter beer

the rotavirus shot and that it causes cramping and lots of
uncomfortable feelings… she has always had gas real bad… the doctor
told me to thicken her formula with barley cereal.. we have been.. and
she has also been taking prevacid 15mg a day….nothing has changed im

Topic: Timing Prevacid and Zantac
My 3 month old son has been on 2ml of zantac twice a day, we need to up it for weight adjustment so will be giving 2.2 ml twice a day.
We just got a script for prevacid from the GI doc, 7.5mg twice a day.
How should I time the doses during the first two weeks when I want to give both until prevacid kicks in?
I want to give zantac before bed.
If I give him prevacid first thing in the morning (7:30 or so) can he really make it until 11:30ish without a dose of zantac since bedtime the night before?
Then I would give second prevacid dose at say 3 ish..
Are those spaced far enough apart? How critical is that four hour window, can it be fudged an hour or so?Also, my breastfed son eats every two hours, often napping just before a feeding so it’s almost impossible to get an empty stomach and 30 minutes before a meal. The GI said as long as it was before the meal we could give it to him and then feed him.. does that sound right?
Also, I’m really worried about the side effects because my son already is quite bothered by gas, will prevacid make him worse? He also only poops about one time a day, which isn’t much so I’m worried about constipation.
Can prevacid cause constipation in breastfed babies too?
Thanks in advance!
