I’m new to this forum, and I’m so glad that I found it. At last people who will understand what I’m going through!!
My DS is 10 months old and was a preemie. He was diagnosed with reflux early on and I suspect a MSPI (I’m breastfeeding and if I have any dairy, even trace, he projectile vomits, but allergy testing was neg.). We finally went to see a GI specialist a couple months ago and he diagnosed him with delayed gastric emptying. He put him on erythromycin for it and took him off all of his other reflux meds. For about 2 weeks we did great, hardly any spit up at all. Since then it’s all gone down hill. The spit up started profusely again and the last two nights have just been hell. DS is up every couple of hours, crying in pain and thrashing around, etc. Tonight is already starting off bad…he’s been up crying already and he just went to bed an hour ago. I don’t know what else to do for him to help him be comfortable. I have some Zantac left over and I started giving that to him to see if it helps.I’m going to call the GI dr. again tomorrow. I just needed to vent to someone who would understand. I’m exhausted, frustrated and sad that my baby is not feeling well again. Not to mention that I’m so sick and tired of PUKE!!
Thanks for listening! ANy advice is appreciated!!Valerierhesp1212 2009-06-30 10:20:12 Topic: When to introduce solids
My five month old really seems interested in watching our family eat. Any suggestions on what others did for food introductions.
She has/had multiple protein intolerances which led to me stopping breastfeeding after several TEDs, and she is now strictly on Neocate. Thanks.Topic: In need of advice
I posted about this on the Boo Hoo I need you board, but it seems to have much less traffic than this board.
My little boy Owen was born at 36 weeks. Around 3-4 weeks we started to figure out that he had a reflux problem. He has always grunted continuously while on his back and he started projectile vomitting. Shortly after, he started to refuse nursing and would arch his back in pain at the breast or bottle. His feedings went from 3.5 oz to an ounce at a time. He would still average the same amount through out the day, it was just constant feeding. The doctor prescribed Zantac and thickening with rice cereal. We were using Dr. Brown’s bottles and could never find the right cereal amount with the right nipple so we gave that up. The Zantac worked great for two weeks and then things went back down hill. Doctor then prescribed Prevacid. Each night Owen would cry for two hours. I just assumed this was “witchery hour”. After a week of this, he cried all night. Then he cried off and on while I was at work the next day. We discovered that he had a horrible reaction to the Prevacid and it caused stomach pain and explosive bowel movements.Within a day of stopping my little guy was back to normal. We started with the Zantac again and I discovered NUK bottles. The placement of the hole works wonders for reflux babies. It is also easy to add cereal to them. We found that adding 1 tsp per 4 oz is right for our little one. I thought we were finally on the right track doing all of this and inclining his bed. Now, after a couple of weeks on the Zantac Owen is back to refusing the bottle and arching his back in pain during feedings. He looks uncomfortable when he eats all the time and now is showing signs of pain for awhile after he eats. He is extremely congested and wheezy. In the last two days he has projectile vommited 4 times. It is in the amounts that seem like a whole bottle. It takes him 5-10 heaves to get everything out.I am at my wits end of what to do. The doctor makes it seem like our only options are Prevacid and Zantac. Neither of these are working for my little guy and I feel so bad for him. He is the happiest little baby despite all of these eating issues. I guess this big long story comes down to me needing some advice. What should I do next? Do I ask to see a specialist, or just wait it out. Should I try Mylanta two hours after the Zantac to maybe help with the burning?Topic: I'm so frusterated!
My name is Christina and I have been browsing this site for a few weeks now. With all the ups and downs that reflux brings on, I thought it was time that I introduce myself and become an active poster.

there was a time (actually if i’m honest MANY TIMES), when i thought i would be skipping down the street with glee at the thought of weaning madelyn and getting off this crazy-train-diet. i had always planned on extended breastfeeding, but this was before this diet. when she was 5 weeks, i began this leg of our journey and now, with her basically 13 mos old, i think we’re almost at the end. one part of me is ready; the other is impossibly sad. i feel incredibly blessed to have been able to nurse her this long. riley wouldn’t nurse after 4-5 mos b/c he was in so much pain while eating and associated the pain with nursing. madelyn has only ever been in that much pain a handful of times, praise God.
it seems that she’s the one who is leading this wean. she nurses for shorter periods of time, and sometimes not at all, opting for solids. i thought i’d be happy…i am not. i am getting to a place of acceptance, but every step is acutely felt. how fitting it is to me that BF is an acronym not only for ‘breastfeeding’ but for ‘best friend’. my sweet sweet girl, my little buddy…oh my little love, what a priviledge it has been to nourish your little body. every roll and crease has been caressed and admired, smooched and nibbled. in you and your brother, i have become what i was meant to be….a mommy, whose body was perfectly designed to love you and feed you. Thank you for allowing me this time, my maddie moo. until the end of this journey, until we start the next chapter…xoxo
Topic: Weird poop
Okay, here I go again. So Ds is breastfed and 2 mo. old. I’ve been on TED for going on 5 weeks. Tried a trial of green beans and screaming followed with terrible gas and sleeplessness. Stopped green beans obviously but 4 days later he still has BAD gas and poop is yellow, runny, no seeds, and STINKY. I know I posted in another area kinda about this but I’m so confused. I stopped eating squash thinking maybe the prolonged irritated tummy was from that but how long should I give between switching things out of my diet?? So now all I’m eating is turkey, rice products, sweet potatoes and pears. How long should I stick with this untill changing something if the gas continues? I’m not concerned about consistency of poop but just wondering if another breastfeeding mama has had a baby with poop that’s not seedy?Help, help. I’m on the brink of tears all the time. Any suggestions?
