I have not posted in a while because I thought we had things relatively under control. We happen to have an appt w/ the pedi GI at 10:20 EST so any quick advice would be GREATLY appreciated. My DD2, 5 months and about 15 pounds, is on Prevacid 7.5 mg 3x/day. During the last month, her night time sleeping has gone from 2-3x feedings/wakings a night to 5+/night. At first I thought it may be a growth spurt or teething, but things have gotten progressively worse both day/night. Yesterday was a particularly bad day, and she screamed terribly in the car on the way to pick up my older DC. At 2 AM, she had a large volume of spit up tinged with blood. At 4 days old, she had an incident of projectile spit up with bright red blood. Upper GI was negative. No obvious blood in stool but I am bringing in this morning’s BM diaper for a check. She is normally a silent refluxer, but she has had more actual spit up lately. She has been gulping alot, which indicates to me that her reflux is acting up. She is solely breast fed. I have eliminated nuts/shellfish from my diet. Previously, I had eliminated dairy as well, but it did not seem to have any impact. Although I am normally pretty tolerate of sleep deprivation, it has been getting completely out of control as of late, and I am getting dizzy and blurred vision.
TIA for anything that may be helpful in discussing situation with dr. You guys are great!Topic: Dose too low for Prilosec?
Hello
My baby Alice is 6 months, weighs 14lbs and has silent refluxShe got a prescription for Prilosec for 6.5mg once a dayWe started Prilosec last Wednesday and I noticed after taking Thursday’s dose at 10am, her second day on it, she was remarkably different, until 5:30pm, then it all went downhill and she was screaming, crying, needing to held and rockedIt was like the tablet last 7 1/2 hoursThe night-time was awful, and the usual waking every 45 to 90 minutes through the night to feed to soothe her throat and get back to sleepSo I split the dose and raised it to 10mg, giving 5mg (half a tablet) at 10am and then 5mg at 8pm (we have 10 mg tablets that need to be dissolved)We’ve been doing this since Friday, so 4 days on a split doseI notice she’s fine till about 3pm after her 10am dose and likewise, she sleeps now for 4 hours solid (incredible!!!!!!) from 8pm till 12 to 1amThen she wakes and is breast-feeding on and off every 40 minutes till 6:30am when we just get up, she is even worse than beforeSo can anyone help – we are only 6 days into this medicine and I know it’s early days, but she is different already – do we need1) to give it more time2) to give a higher dose3) to give a higher dose and split more, like 3 times a dayThanks to anyone who can help and share their experiences, really gratefulBest wishesSarah & AliceTopic: what now??? help!
hi again
when i last posted i was headed to the ped GI. she & nutritionist urged me to try elecare for a week to see if ben’s sleep improved. prior to that i was 100% breastfeeding and had eliminated dairy, soy, citrus, nuts and a few other things but hadn’t tried TED. I figured – sure – this is a short cut to determine if food sensitivites are causing his pain and the typical green/ muscousy diapers. So over a week later – he still sleeps terribly (waking every 2 hours) and can’t really nap.
I know he is teething too…has his fist in his mouth. After the week on Elecare i can say i miss BFing…hate mixing bottles and pumping and have started a premature TED to get him back on the boob soon. we simply can’t afford the Elecare (insurance said NO) and i don’t see much improvement BUT – his green mucousy stools are gone. Otherwise it is the same program.i have scoured these boards tonight even though i need to be sleeping!!! seems to me like both TED and Elecare will take much longer than the week or 2 the Dr. said to work… Elecare for months? TED for weeks or more? i am willing to do TED but after day 2 i am starving and need some veggies in my life…today the Ped GI called to check in. she suggested if there was NO change on Elecare after about 9 days that food sensitivites are not Ben’s problem and the TED is unnecessary. she thinks we should do an endoscopy to see if there are other issues…???????oh boy. another whole thing to worry about. the procedure sounds very invasive and could be troubling. or might it take us right ot the root of the problem? she said you can see allergies in the procedure…and other issues that might exist….do I try to stick it out on Elecare for longer or try TED and hope I see some improvement? she said TED cannot be more elemental than the Elecare…but did we try it long enough?also heading to the Hasbro Children’s Hospital Sleep Clinic after we document how LITTLE sleep we all get after a full week….what can we learn there????we are co sleeping and cuddling and i make about 4 oz. and give Ben about an ounce at each waking to settle him b/c as with the breast, it seems to be all that will settle him down. he does seem to wake in pain.advice please! TED until further notice. i just can’t give up the breastfeeding yet but have a ticking clock as i have to go back to work in a month and need to sort out daycare, etc. it’s all “starting” to stress this tired momma out!!!!!
thanks!kristinTopic: No more meds!
