Topic: breastfeeding question
Hello. At 6 wks old what is the longest a baby can go without eating and it not diminish the milk supply? Also, is it true that some breastfeed babies can go a whole week without a dirty diaper? We’re not there yet, but yesterday he only had 2 and he usually has 5.
Thank you,
Shelby
Topic: mspi??
Hi… my daughter is almost 3 months old and she is currently taking Prilosec and erythromycin for reflux. She was on Prevacid from about 4 weeks. I breastfed until she was 8 weeks old which at that time doc had me put her on nutramigen because upper gi series showed some irritaition or something to the mucosa in the intestines. So we tried nutramigen. None of these things have really worked. She has gained weight so doc is not concerned. However, after she eats she just moans and squirms and grunts for awhile like she is uncomfortable. Now she has really gotten fussy with the bottle and sometimes doesn’t drink as much. We are now trying Neocate.(which has made reflux worse!) She drinks even less of it. I have tried putting rice cereal in it to help reflux… but that seems to hurt her tummy worse.
I just don’t know what to do. My son had these problems and finally they jjust said Protein intolerance. He presented with eosinophills and damage to the villa in the intestines. Will she ever start drinking good? My son developed a feeding aversion and never took a bottle(unless asleep or otherwise distracted). I am so afraid we are going to get to that point with her.
How long does it take on neocate to see a difference?

Topic: breastfeeding and prevacid
I am breastfeeding my 5 wk old and he will be starting prevacid soon. I have read that you should give it on an empty stomach and feed them 30 min later. Also he is on pepcid until the prevacid kicks in. I have also read that you should give it 3x a day. He will be on the prevacid packets. How does all that work when you are breastfeeding? I still have to wake him sometimes to eat. Usually he eats and then takes forever to go to sleep and by time he does go to sleep he only gets about an hour before I have to wake him. Also, I’m not sure when I can stop waking him for feedings. I hope all this makes sense. He is crying in the background. Very distracting. I need to get to him. Thanks for the help.

Topic: Just have to vent!!
I just have to vent to people that I know will be as annoyed as me by this. We had a party this weekend for my husbands 30th birthday. We invited a friend from college who is now a Physician’s Assistant. He has been working in family practice for a little while and was asking me how Sebastian was doing. I was telling him about the reflux and MSPI issues. He said that reflux is totally over diagnosed. He said the only drug he prescribes for it is Zantac and if that dose not work then it means they don’t really have reflux!
He then went on to say that the MSPI stuff was not true and that some babies just cant tolerate formula well. I said that I started out breast feeding and his response was, that some babies just can’t tolerate breast milk either!
I tried to share my knowledge and educate him a bit, when I really just wanted to rip his head off. Unfortunately he is a pampas ass and would not listen to anything I said.
It is so frustrating that proper reflux care is not being taught, and idiots like that are treating peoples babies. I feel so bad for the parents and kids that have to see him. He works in a clinic for low income families on medicaid, so I am sure they have no other choice.
Sorry for unloading. Dh was not nearly as upset by it as I was. He just said it was Bryan being Bryan and I should just ignore him and change the subject. I know that you all are the only ones that will truly share my outrage at what an idiot this guy is.

Topic: Vitamins
Hey all…. I’m trying to figure out if my son has intolerence to dairy and
soy. I’ve been eliminating for almost 3 weeks…. and then today
discovered that my vitamin has soy in it!!!!
Does anyone have any suggestion of a multivitamin that is dairy/soy free
and safe while breastfeeding?????
Thanks!!!!

I think I continued waking them during the day to eat until they were about 10 – 12 weeks old. By then they usually were waking on their own and eating more at each feeding so they could go longer without eating.
– it’s so hard to keep track of all these little gerdlings
. Hope that helps! And I’m sorry I
