I am really confused about Neocate and reflux.I am aware that reflux can be caused by MSPI / multiple food protein intollerance. Therefore a hypoallergenic amino acid based formula SHOULD ‘cure’ the reflux, as there will be no allergens to cause a reacion. From reading these forums, it seems that lots of your LOs are on Neocate BUT are also still being medicated for reflux.Does this mean that the Neocate doesn’t work completly? The reason I am asking is that I am breastfeeding my 7.5 month old baby on a strict elimination diet, but he is still having episodes of reflux. I have a choice of using reflux meds, and continuing to breastfeed, or to switch to Neocate and hope that it cures all. I am concerned that I switch to Neocate, still have to medicate (as I may as well have just stayed with the breastfeeding and medicate anyway IYSWIM).I would be so grateful if you could share your experiences, if you are / have used Neocate. Thank you, thank you, thank you in advance!!!I am really confused about Neocate and reflux.I am aware that reflux can be caused by MSPI / multiple food protein intollerance. I SHOULD be a reflux expert by now, but I am stumped this time.
My first three children (now ages 4, 3, and 1) all suffered from reflux and dairy/soy intolerance. I breastfed all of them on a dairy/soy-free diet and they all were successfully treated with prevacid.Their symptoms included:green poopsconstant cryingcouldn’t sleeppulling off the breast and cryinga moderate amount of spit up.We just had baby #4. I avoided all antibiotics while pregnant, during delivery, and baby didn’t receive antibiotics in any form, thinking that poor flora in the belly had contributed to my other children’s reflux.I started Baby4 on probiotics at day #3, determined to beat reflux this time around.Baby4 at 4 weeks old:has browninsh/yellow poops (no mucus, no green)is completely contentdoesn’t pull off the breast or cry during or after feedingshas no spit updoesn’t have hiccups all the timeBUTshe absolutely can not be put down. I wear her during the day in carriers, but at night I would like to put her down. As soon as I put her down (on her back or on her belly) she starts grunting and swallowing, eventually this degrades into crying. She sleeps contently if held on me in a recliner, but if I attempt to recline in anyway, here comes the grunting and squirming. Is this reflux again??? Do I need to get her on meds? I really really really didn’t want to go down this road a fourth time. Is it possible she is just a poor sleeper and likes to be held?Thank you in advance for your opinions!well I have been coming to this forum for weeks now to find support. Now I am really going crazy.
At her 2 week checkup the ped said she had silent reflux. I told the ped i was having a really hard time feeding her-she was doing great before that- She is breastfed-won´t take more than 2 oz in a bottle. So we started the useless zantac, then after 10 days, she was covered in a rash(head, back and chest) and was having FOUL smelling gas, I mean foull like a 40 year old truck driver! And a lot of it.Today she has been on prevacid compounded by a pharmacy for a week at the chime of 5MG day I have since gone off dairy as we think it may be MPI . She feeds every two hours (which leads me to think that a possible foremilk/hindmilk imbalance may be contributing to her pain). She had a great day of no pain, feed every 4 and feeding well. Then it all went down hill. The last two days she has been crying in`pain passing tons of gas, pooped twice in 2 days(before she was going every other day). She cries and all she wants os the breast for comfort so consequently she is feeding very poorly and will not sleep during the day. She falls asleep and gets woken up by pain.My dilemmas:1)i am not sure she has reflux now! she is not better or different since the dietary changes and meds. Now i read that for MPI improvement can take weeks<…………..I want to keep breastfeeding but am thinking of forcing her to formula feed to eliminate leftover protein quicker2) her feeding aversion is the same, she passes gas when she feeds so its a tug of war.3)I dont want to keep pumping her full of p`revacid if reflux is not the culprit but rather colic or food sensitivity.I am so lost, desperate, my husband has been on deployment for 7 months and is coming home soon, i have a demanding two year old boy and on top of that 4 weeks after i delivered, i had tobe rushed to the er because my stupid OB left a huge piece of placenta in me AFTER having a d/cGOING NUTS!!! HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELPTopic: still no improvement
I just read pirate.wife’s post, and our stories are somewhat similar. Elie has now been on zegerid for 8 days and she doesn’t seem to be improving, if nothing else, it seems to be getting worse. The problem is we cannot seem to pinpoint a difference b/c sometimes she does ok at feedings and other times she goes rigid and will not let the nipple even touch her tongue. She gets 2 bottles a day of formula and the rest of the time is breastmilk. It is absolutely heartbreaking to watch her. Sometimes I can hear her swallow and it rumbles in her tummy and she screams, other times it is a “hard swallow” and her eyes get really wide, but she’ll keep eating. Lately, she has been not wanting anything to do with any kind of feeding–breast or bottle. She gets hiccups frequently, has trouble staying asleep, can’t stand the car seat (which i don’t know if it’s reflux related). I think we’re going to try to take her back to the pediatrician tomrorow, but I don’t know what he can do for us. I am feeling so sad and frustrated right now.
Topic: Need Help Please :-)
Hello all, I have an almost 3 week old baby girl that I believe has acid reflux. My four year old daughter had acid reflux terribly and was diagnosed at about 3 weeks of age. She did very well on compounded Prevacid from 3 weeks of age until she was approximately 8 months old, when we were finally able to permanently get her off of the Prevacid. I don’t know how much has changed in the treatment of reflux in infants in three years.
My new little munchkin is showing all of the signs of reflux and I would like to get her some medicinal relief sooner than later. I have already taken steps to keep her head elevated when sleeping and hold her upright after feedings (she is breastfed, as was my first daughter). Just as with my first daughter, these things are not doing the trick and I believe she is going to need reflux meds to manage this and make her comfortable. It’s been so long, I’ve forgotten what dosage, etc. my first daughter started at. I have a new doctor, so want to be able to express to him what I’d like for her to take. Can anyone share with me what would be the best med, dosage, form for my new baby?First daughter was on compounded Prevacid (3 to 4 years ago) which we filled every two weeks. I think it was 7.5 mg that she started at, but she went up. She ended up on the strawberry packages of Prevacid as she got older.Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just feel for my little girl who has all the symptoms of my first daughter with this terribly “wheezing” sound to go along with the other symptoms. 🙁
