I would get to another doctor, as the one you have doesn’t seem ‘up to date’?
Erin is right, you cannot thicken breastmilk bcse there are enzymes in the breastmilk that will just break down the cereal. these babies have sensitive digestive systems to begin with, so there is no need to thicken your breastmilk- just nurse that baby
also there is most likely no need for benefiber, either!
breastfed babies rarely get constipated- I would consult w/ both an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and la leche league (or just one of the two) to find out about breastfeeding-
if baby’s stool is soft then there is no constipation- sometimes there is grunting and straining, but then when the poop comes out it is soft- this is not constipation. constipation is when the poop comes out HARD in little round HARD PEBBLES. so, personally, I would back-off BOTH the cereal AND the benefiber and see what happens, poop-wise. just let the little new digestive track be…we can help you some more once you stop these things…next, I would address the zantac dose. tell me how much baby weighs and I can calculate the PROPER zantac dose for you.
I won’t even go into the prevacid just yet because I’ve already told you a lot and I’m sure you’re overwhelmed! I was when I started this journey!

hellbennt 2010-02-22 19:34:09 Hi, I had a beautiful baby girl who is now 6 weeks old, unfortunately since she was born it has been a rollercoaster of crying, screaming, hospital visits and trawling the net. Sorry this message will be long but want to tell our story. She started screaming and wanting to feed constantly around 3 days old (i was breastfeeding) when my milk came in and this carried on for weeks, was told many opposing things and eventually ended up in hospital with dehydration. Started formula feeding and things improved for couple days but they have been bad since. Her symptoms are crying inconsollably, screaming, gagging, choking, coughing, some vomiting, occasionally projectile, poor sleeping and constant waking, frequent hiccups, drooling and constantly irritable. Saw paedatrician and diagnosed reflux, was put on gaviscon over a week ago, this improved vomiting but none of the other symptoms. She was put on domperidone on Friday which seems to have worsened things, does anyone know how long this takes to work. She seems in constant pain (heartburn) but doctor won’t prescribe any acid suppresants and i don’t know what to do. She is obviously bringing up acid and swallowing it back down but doctor said nothing more can do. I’ve seen many posts describing acid blockers and so feel my baby is not getting full care. I have raised basket (doesn’t seem to help) and leave her upright for half hour plus after feeds. What do i do! I can’t bear to see my baby suffer any more! Help……

was hoping to get people’s opinions on Prevacid solutab or capsules vs. Zegerid.1) if your little one regurges up the prevacid solutabs into her mouth but then swallows it again right away, are the beads still good?2) does anyone feel like they are “guessing” or “hoping” that the Prevacid in solutab form gets to where it needs to take full effect?3) has anyone switched from prevacid solutab to prevacid capsules in applesauce and noted better results?4) has anyone been switched to zegerid and found better results?5) do most people mix in the zegerid with a feeding? (our little one is still on breastmilk only and it would be great if we can just mix it into a meal)6) if you have to give zegerid separately, does anyone have difficulty with the volume your little one needs to take to get teh dose down?7) does anyone have problems with the taste of zegerid?we are meeting a new team on Monday and we want to gather as much info on these medications. thanks in advance!Hey ladies
I wasn’t really sure where to stick this. Caroline is 2wks old today… hard to believe. Anyway, I am breastfeeding this go round which I wasn’t good at with Cooper so that is why I am posting. Her poop is the normal bf color (yellow/orange) but I don’t think it is the right consistency, but I am not sure. They aren’t seedy at all. They are not really formed either, but again she is only 2wks old. I wouldn’t call them diarrhea but they are loose. She doesn’t have one with all feedings and most of them aren’t very large.
I have some probiotics on order, should be here today b/c I do think her tummy is sensitive. What does a normal bf poop look like? TIA.

….I was just explaining that his dad thinks he is spoiled. I told him there is no such thing and that connor is not spoiled but in pain. He just does not understand. And I totally tried the TED diet and of course dh thought I was crazy for doing it. I only lasted 10 days, my milk supply went down and I just can’t lose any more weight. But for that 10 days nothing changed in Connor. I did try formula one time but my timing was totally off. I feed him the bottle at 4:00 pm and 2 hours later he was really fussy but Connor is always fussy at that time due to being tired, so I need to try it again. My goal with breastfeeding is 6 months. But if Connor does not do well with formula then I will try to go longer. My supply just keeps going down. (I know this because I have to pump at work 
) Its funny how every baby is different. Connor drinks 4 oz every 2 hours. I tried to give him 5 oz but he will never finish. other moms say their babies drink 6 to 7 oz by this age. Connor is 17 pounds so he has never had a problem gaining weight. I know things will get better! I also know god would never give me anything I couldn’t handle. ps: Laura, I didn’t think you came off as being mad at me. I am hoping to find some help here. I have been on other fourms, but people are more interested in pointless chit-chat then help each other. I am hoping this one will be different. My son has not been diagnoised with Reflux, but his doctor has mentioned it as a possiblity. Here is what has been happening:
My son is 11 weeks old. I tried breast feeding, but gave up after 3 days because it hurt so bad. I had a few samples of Similac Advance from the hospital so I used them. When we went to the doctor he gave us Enfamil Premium Lipil to last until our WIC appointment. WIC put him on Enfamil Lipil. Everything was fine, except he was really gassy. I just thought this was normal, but then it got worse. He started crying all the time, having really bad gas, and was having hard bowel movements. I was told to switch him to Enfamil Gentlease, which did not help at all with the gas or excessive crying, but it did give him diarrhea. Next was Similac Isomil (a soy formula), this seemed to work for the 1st day, but after that it was more of the same. He was on Enfamil A.R. for a very short time, it seemed to help, but his doctor just wanted to switch him to Similac Alimentum right away. Which helped for a few days, but now he is crying a lot again, still has diarreha and a lot of gas, plus he seems to be spitting up more. Help!!! What should I do?
